A San Francisco Chamber of Commerce Boosters' train visited Oregon towns including Coquille and Bandon with eighty plus delegates. The official reception featured a packed depot crowd and a tour in autos for key executives from San Francisco banks, shipyards, and firms such as Crocker National Bank, Wells Fargo, California Fruit Caners, Levi Strauss, Pacific Portland Cement, and Henry S. Marie Greene Drowns in Coquille River
Miss Marie Greene aged 16 drowned while swimming with two companions in the Coquille River about a quarter mile above Sugarlong Creamery. Depth was about 10 feet. she was learning to swim and could not reach bottom. Despite two hours forty minutes of resuscitation, she did not survive. She leaves six siblings. funeral held at the Presbyterian church on August 20, the sixteenth anniversary of her birth.

Jerry Jones of Estacada rose from ridicule five years ago for growing ginseng to a major local grower. His gardens now hold thousands of plants aged 1 to 5 years, selling dried roots at 6 to 7 dollars per pound with expectations of hundreds of pounds in spring 1917. Additional plantings expand an acreage that yields roots faster than eastern rivals, signaling Estacada as a future drug and extract hub.

Trestle Fire Twice Near North Fork Bridge
The S. P. trestle near the North Fork Bridge caught fire twice in the past week. First on Friday it was only scorched. on Sunday, after No. 2 passed, a second blaze was spotted. Mr. Bartlett and his son helped keep it from spreading while crews and the agent were notified. The wind aided the flames and a longer start could have burned a large section of the woodwork.
