Big Mill Burns at Myrtle Point Causing Widespread Loss
A major fire last Friday destroyed the Johnson mill the Morse electric plant the railroad trestle five cars and four homes near Myrtle Point six miles below. Losses total about 84 000 with 50 workers out of work and both Coquille and Myrtle Point left without electric light service. Railroad tracks and cars valued at 10 000 were ruined and a large lumber yard suffered heavy damage. Managers and locals hope for rebuilding while awaiting plans for future operations and temporary arrangements to maintain business.

Picnic at Arago Farmers Picnic Highlights
Last Friday the Arago farmers held a well attended picnic with an forenoon program of speeches and music. A big dinner followed prepared by local ladies. Afternoon events featured races on a fair track drawing many attendees from this area including Coquille and Johnson's mill.

Doctors Endicott Brothers Return From Rock Creek Outing
Dr. S C Endicott and his brother Dr. Chas Endicott of Coquille returned last Friday from an upper Rock Creek hunting and fishing trip. They reported success with both fish and game and noted a freak deer kill a doe with horns. The horns are unusual in size and form with one side straight and the other forked. The head was sent to Marshfield for mounting to add to Dr Endicott's collection.

Traction plan envisions line from Coos Bay to Grants Pass
J H Somers of Marshfield, vice president of Coos Bay Traction, visits to promote guaranteed bonds for a railroad. If locals back subscriptions, engineers will start within weeks and build toward Coos Bay Myrtle Point Rosenburg and a branch up the Coquille to Grants Pass and Medford. Bonds are secured by first mortgage bonds on real estate with Bankers Security holding in trust. If interest payments fail, bondholders may appoint a receiver and claim assets before stockholders.
