Cannery Opens At Myrtle Point For Fresh Run

The Myrtle Point cannery opened on Wednesday with enough beans to start a run on Thursday. Some larger fields are not yet ready, so canning will extend over two to three weeks before apples are canned. A pie cherry example showed 64 cherries on a single fifteen inch branch, highlighting the hardy, productive cherry for canning. West to Be Promoted At United States Land and Irrigation Congress

The United States Land and Irrigation Congress will convene in Chicago from November 18 to December 9 with the Coliseum Annex fully rented by the Southern Pacific Company and Harriman lines for western exhibits. Towns and districts along these routes may send moving picture shows and lecturers to illustrate home, farm, and industrial opportunities.

Railway Lines Secure Annex Space For Western Exhibits

At the Chicago Land show the Harriman lines occupied the space proposed for this year s western exhibits. In 1910 about 77 000 people attended lectures on the first colonist excursion after the last land show. Passenger officials report about 55 000 colonists were carried into the territory, a record for lines including the Southern Pacific and Union Pacific.

Prospects Bright for Salmon Mountain Coarse Gold Mining

Commissioner B A Dodge treasurer of Salmon Mountains Coarse Gold Mining Company and his father and brother Norman visited 18 miles south of town to assess operations. They reported fine ore in a new tunnel and plan to install larger machinery. Locals estimate the belt yielded 200 000 dollars in prior years and await further wealth. Narrow Escape From Drowning in Coquille River

Rev F J Chatburn and daughter Kate along with Chauncy and Eunice Carpenter had a near drowning when a small gasoline launch capsized near Prosper. Chatburn and Carpenter swam, saved the two girls, and with Sunset tow boat rescued them after about five minutes in the dark water.
