Fire destroyed most upstairs rooms of the J Henry Schroeder residence near Arago late Monday after noon. Neighbors helped save first floor contents while wind from the barns aided the fire’s spread. Loss placed at 3500 with about 1200 insurance. Schroeder family long tied to Coos county history. Oakland and Myrtle Point played a close ball game with Oakland winning 9 to 5 as old players returned to the field.

Walter A Strong Killed in Deep Gravel Mine Near Waldo
A July 29 dispatch from the Oregon Journal reports Walter A Strong was killed at the Deep Gravel mine near Waldo. He had worked there since its opening under all managers and leaves a widow and several children in Takilma. He was about forty and a nephew of Lewis Strong of this city. Details of the accident are not provided.

Summer Training School for Teachers Announced

At a Saturday gathering in the Goos County seat, prominent ranchers and business men voted to form the Goos County Fair Association. R.C. Dument was elected president, L.A. Roberts secretary, and 3.R. Benson treasurer. A constitution and rules were to be drafted for next meeting. The surplus from the stock show committee was handed to the treasurer. The group may later be renamed Coos Curry County Fair Association.
