At Yankee Stadium 75,000 spectators watched Army Cadets defeat Navy Midshipmen 6 to 0 as Stecker's 57-yard fourth quarter run set the margin. Army dominated early but both teams battled hard with penalties and missed scoring chances and a crucial Navy fumble.
Muscatine high school student John Haefner won first place in the dramatic division at the Iowa Nine contest in Iowa City. His win propelled Muscatine to second in the league standings behind Burlington with 20 points.
Frank Cozzens of East Front Street was accidentally shot eight miles west of Muscatine while fixing a .410 shotgun. Aimed at the eye, one shot penetrated his skull injuring his eye and hand. doctors expect recovery. He was tended by Perry Huff who aided after the gun discharged near a car.
Havana AP reports Cuba’s government quietly arrests agitators linked to recent disturbances that led to suspension of constitutional guarantees. Dozens of warrants target nationalist figures and anti-admin figures as a rush of arrests follows and many flee to the United States. Newspaper staff face arrests over reporting, including Julio Gunaard Ramon Arroyo and Jose Ignacio Rivero who left for the U S after government objections.
John C Kemper longtime Muscatine resident born December 14 1850 in Hamilton County Ohio marks his 80th birthday with a quiet family gathering at 716 Park Avenue. He lives in Muscatine since 1915 and served as Pine Bluff school treasurer for 35 years.

The Iowa supreme court affirmed the death sentence for Fred A. Woodmansee, convicted of the Dec 29 1929 murder of trunk maker W. F. Knap in Des Moines. Woodmansee, a close friend, was tried in Polk County and to be hanged in April 1931. The case featured a deathbed confession and lengthy trial arguments.

Des Moines AP reports F. F. Faville designated to Iowa supreme court as chief justice for 1931 by virtue of being the oldest member whose term first expires. The court reappointed B. W. Garret as clerk and A. G. Whitney as reporter for four year terms. Garrett has served 20 years and Whitney 16 years.

In Moline Illinois a bomb exploded on the front porch of the home of Lewis R. Gaylord a former deputy sheriff and dry goods worker his wife and son were blown from their beds the blast wrecked the porch and shattered windows in nearby houses officers found no clues Gaylord said threats during a sheriff race suggested Chicago gang involvement, not local talent.
Muscatine retail stores will remain open evenings for Christmas shoppers starting next Wednesday night. Stores will stay open until 9 30 p m after a conference of business men announced the plan.

Ethel Rowland a 14 year old Muscatine girl who vanished on November 19 has been found in Mt Vernon Illinois. Police say she was with William Ray and Paul Teel former Columbus Junction residents who are charged with child stealing. Her mother Ms Jennie Rowland travels to Mt Vernon to bring her home.
One inch of snow fell at 7 am and continued intermittently through the morning. The temperature rose to 38 degrees, four degrees higher than Friday. The river stood at 2.5 feet, with east winds. Forecast calls for cloudy conditions tonight and Sunday with possible light snow in the far northeast. Sunday should bring slight warming in the northwest.
News of a strike from the Rabbit Hole mining district near Lovelock Nevada stoked hopes of a boom among miners. Charlies and James Scossa reportedly found 12 sacks of ore assaying at $5 per pound with sacks valued at $46 276 per ton and locals planned rushes toward Rabbit Hole to stake claims.
Three youths labeled cry baby bandits were executed in Sing Sing for the Long Island druggist slaying. James Bolger 19 James Butler 20 and Italio Ferdinandi 22 died in the electric chair after Governor Roosevelt refused to commute their sentences. Butler spoke little Ferdinandi offered final remarks and smiled as he faced death. The trio shared a last meal of roast veal and ice cream.
