Arrest of Robert King for Madison Co unemployment charge

Robert King of RFD Woodlawn was arrested here by county officers today at the request of Madison County Illinois authorities. Local officers say King acted in Madison County on a charge of violation of the unemployment compensation act.

Christmas Party At Bethel Tabernacle Bazaar

About 150 gathered in the Bethel Tabernacle church basement for the annual Christmas exchange. The decorated basement featured a large Christmas tree as friends enjoyed fancy cookies and coffee. Hostesses were Mrs. Amy Summers Mrs. Gladys Eldson Mrs. Yva Bullard and Mrs. Edrena Wiehn. Christmas carols directed by Mrs. Bernadine Caldwell and gifts were distributed by Sunday school superintendent Frank Tittle.

Postpone Christmas Program at Free Methodist Church

The Christmas program planned for Friday at the Free Methodist church is moved to Sunday night at o'clock. The Boyd Sun Shine Club met December 19 at 1 p.m. at Mrs. Fleta High's home with Fay Copeland presiding. Ten members attended as Edna Barr read the Christmas story and prizes were awarded in games.

The Woman's Society of Christian Service of Wesley Methodist Church held its December meeting with devotional reading of the 46th Psalm and Silent Night. The Friendship and Evening Star Bowling Leagues held a Christmas party Monday night in Hunt's Coffee Shop dining room. The room and tables were decorated in Christmas theme by Mrs. Dale Hunt and Mrs. W Paleton. A turkey dinner was served to members followed by games.

The choir of 44 voices invites all to attend.

The Women’s Society of Christian Service at Epworth Methodist Church held its annual Christmas party at president Mrs Mabel Culli’s home on Thursday December 21. Yandell Struck by Auto in Mt Vernon

Oscar E. Yandell well known Vernon justice of the peace was struck by a car at Ninth and Main around 6:15 last night. He received head injuries at Good Samaritan Hospital and was later sent home to 107 North Seventh Street. The driver was F E Thatcher of rural route Mt Vernon.

Child Killed as Car Door Opens in Vandalia

Three year old Jerry Wayne Beck died when the rear door of a moving car opened and he fell from the vehicle. Fleming Beck, the driver and father, said he was en route to town with other children in the rear seat when the accident happened near Vandalia, Illinois.

Sailor Sends Naples Telegram To Parents In Xmas Greeting

A Navy sailor, Leland D. Wells, sent Christmas greetings from Naples Italy to his parents Mr. and Mrs. Leland Wells of 111 North 12th Street. Wells serves on the USS A. M. Funeral services for Emery Wilkey, who died yesterday at his home, 2501 Perkins, will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Logan Street Baptist Church. Dr. Wm Gray, pastor, will conduct the service.
