Walter Damrosch Dies at Age 88 in New York

Walter Damrosch, renowned conductor and composer, died of a heart attack at 88 in his New York home east of Central Park. The longtime head of the New York Symphony Orchestra had left retirement in 1927 to pursue radio work and inspired generations of schoolchildren and music lovers.

Pvt Rufus Gow ler Jr of the U S Air Force arrived home today from Cheyenne Wyo to spend a 10 day Christmas leave with his parents and friends. after leave he will go to Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio Tex.

Commander of 8th Army Killed In Jeep Truck Crash

General Walton Walker commander of the Eighth Army is killed when his jeep collides with a truck near Pyongyang after Allied forces reached the North Korean capital. His death follows months of rapid advances and a renewed Red threat as Chinese forces mass on the 38th parallel. MacArthur praises Walker as a brilliant leader, and Lt. Gen. Matthew Ridgeway is named to replace him. Walker, born 1889 in Belton Texas, rose from West Point to lead in World War II and the Korean War.

Jefferson Memorial Hospital employees held a Christmas party with gift exchange. Royal Neighbors social club met at Mrs. Clarence Windle's home for the annual dinner attended by 21 members and one guest Mrs. Joy Jones. President Mrs. Lora Kissel opened the meeting with song and prayer, a gift was given to the past president, and Mrs. Joy Jines and others sang carols.
