Williamsburg Kentucky July 20 1918 letter from a Republican chairman endorses Robsion over Edwards for Congress. It cites Robsion loyalty and record and accuses Edwards of unfaithfulness to the party while noting Democratic praise for Edwards. Ends noting continuation on page 4.
The text extols Mr. Edwards for prior service and positions him to win key committee seats. It highlights his war stance, soldier benefits, old age pensions for miners and workers, and his roles in road funding river improvement rural mail delivery and eight hour laws. It praises his leadership and plans greater service.
J M Robsion levels multiple charges against Caleb Powers accusing him of traitorous conduct marriage to a German alleged anti war campaigning and lack of Republican loyalty He labels Powers rich stingy and unhelpful to churches and war bonds Powers withdrew from the race citing health and denounces Robsions attacks on the Powers family and Croley a campaign ally.
Don C Edwards denied urging Robsion to enter the congressional race. Robsion, already a strong candidate, traveled to London where he criticized Powers as a disgrace to the district and hinted at insider 'dope' to defeat him. Edwards offered cautious advice, noting Robsion faced a tough proposition.
