Woman's Club Social Meeting Set for December 10

The Woman's club invites members to a social gathering at Community hall on Wednesday evening December 10. Hostesses include Mrs Luckner program chair Mrs Bolton music chair Mrs Pankonin philanthropic chair and Mrs Gaul social chair. Members are urged to attend with guests. admittance is a can or pound of food or 25 cents for Central Relief.

Library Bord Benefit Nets For Public Library

The Library Board held a Friday evening benefit at the public school raising about 40 dollars for the library. Lamp donated by Wm Busse Sr won by Mrs Keiper, prizes from the Woman's Club and the Achievement club aided the treasury with candy sales. A fruit cake and preserves contributed 5.60 for Central Relief. Mrs Al Dresser and Mrs E O Ingalls distributed items.

Oscar Gerken Dies at 33 in West Northfield

Oscar Gerken age 33 died Monday at his home on Gerken road after a period of illness due to pneumonia. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 30 p m from the home then at St Johns Evangelical Lutheran church West Northfield with burial in St Johns cemetery West Northfield

Dimes Grow For Church Ladies Circle Smocking Class

The Ladies Circle of the church plans to grow the dimes they started before Christmas. On Thursday December 4 Mrs F Weber will lead a smocking class charging each attendee a dime. Mrs L Johnson and Mrs V Bacon will boost their dimes by serving refreshments after the class.

Albert Greinke Dies After Illness at Home

Mt Prospect residents were shocked by the sudden death of Albert Greinke age 13 at nine AM from pneumonia and possible stroke. Funeral set for 2 PM at the Lutaeran church.

Northwest Suburban Basketball League Opens Season

The Northwest Suburban Basketball League will start its eight team schedule next week with four games. A 56 game season runs weekly through March 5 with Des Plaines defending champions favored. Next week features Lake Zurich at Arlington Heights Morton Grove at Glenview Des Plaines at Niles Center and Deerfield at Northbrook.

Mueller Grose wedding a brilliant church affair

Irma Mueller and John Lawrence Grose wed at First Presbyterian Church in a lavish ceremony staged as a queenly setting. The bride, a North Western graduate and teacher, and Grose, longtime high school educator, celebrated with a reception at the bride’s home as a wide circle of family and out of town guests attended.

Native of Denmark Visits Daughter Here

Mr. Peter Niffen of Denmark, 78, is visiting his daughter Mrs. T. Maseng on South Main Street. He spent the summer touring Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, and France with a Texas-based son and family, then came to stay with the Masengs before leaving New York December 9 by the Scandinavian American Line to resume duties as an agent for the same line in Denmark.

Basement Fire at Arlington Heights Home

A basement fire at the home of Mr and Mrs Henry Firnbach 122 S Evergreen Ave Arlington Heights broke out shortly before noon Monday. Smoke filled the basement and part of the stairs before firefighters arrived. The blaze appears to have started on a shelf where paint and varnish were stored and was quickly extinguished.

Arlington Heights High School hosts two benefit games Friday to aid needy residents. Alumni versus Cardinals promises a strong crowd with two 7:30 and 8:30 showings. Tickets cost 25 cents for children and 50 cents for adults with proceeds to Miss Jackson for winter aid.

State Department and County Officers Attend VFW Meeting

State Department and County officers attended a VFW installation Saturday night November 22 1930 at Rand Tower Prospect Post 1337 and its Auxiliary installed their 1931 officers. Post Commander Phil Mendelson led the ceremony with remarks by Henry ee and presentations to Past Commander Arthur Flesch. County officials and posts from Chicago and suburbs joined in the event praising Prospect Post’s relief work and service to veterans and families.

County Bureau Organizes Unemployment Registration Countywide

DuPage County aims to measure and alleviate unemployment with a county bureau registration system. Dr. W. V. Hooft says central and southern areas are set up, villages along Irving Park boulevard to host centers, and only 35 percent of county construction labor is currently employed.

Lonnquist Kasper recount promised after tight Cook County vote

Axel Lonnquist of Wilmette Republican trails Frank Kasper Democrat by 355 votes in county commissioner tally, prompting a recount demand from the Business Men's Republican group led by Robert McCormick Adams.
