Central Junior High School Put Up For Auction

Mount Prospect District 57 moved to auction Central Junior High, once called the district’s oldest and poorest, hoping to sell for 500000 to fund Lincoln School expansion. Park District and Mount Prospect Library show interest while Referenda on Gregory School’s completion lingered. Sale terms debated, with bid openness and minimum price urged, and the district to continue occupying the building through 9170.

Congreve Advises on Central School Sale Value

Village President Congreve urged Mount Prospect District 57 to auction Central School with a minimum bid of 500000. He estimated downtown land at 4.25 per sq ft, noting the three acre site near Elmhurst Road Central Road and Busse Ave could support offices and shopping centers under B-3 zoning. He urged calculating the school's value to the district Park District and village and noted a planned unit development ordinance due to pass December 13.

District 214 eyes Sacred Heart sale for high school plan

Superintendent Edward H. Gilbert told the District 214 Citizens Committee that the board should study buying Sacred Heart of Mary High School in Rolling Meadows to save money on a new 3,000-student public high school. The 1,000-pupil parochial facility, its convent, and 14 acres could be expanded, with 75 percent of students from the District 214 area. Archdiocese decision hinges on population studies and may depend on selling debt. The committee also backed tax-rate raises, a longer school day or year study, and stronger school-community relations, plus a series EE savings bond program and enhanced student participation in activities.

Wheeling Police Arrest Obscenity Suspect After 42-Hour Stakeout

Six weeks of work and a 52 hour stakeout led Wheeling police to arrest Earl Getlin a 34 year old Skokie man on charges of selling obscene 8mm film to a cooperating young woman. Fourteen more reels and 37 magazines were found in his car along with $90 in marked money. Also charged were battery open container violations and the suspect was identified through multiple aliases. Getlin posted $1,008 bond and faces trial January 21 in Arlington Heights.

Lockers Get Cleaning Job by Burglar

Eighteen storage lockers in the basement of St. John's Apartments at 1500 Busse Road Mount Prospect were emptied over the weekend with more than 2000 dollars in luggage sporting equipment and miscellaneous items stolen. A janitor spotted a man about 25 near the basement entrance on Thanksgiving. he fled when approached. Police suspect the burglar may have been a former employee of the complex.
