Longtime Mount Pleasant figure Fred Russell dies after heart attack
Fred Russell aged 71 and a prominent Mount Pleasant resident for 45 years died after a heart attack Sunday morning at St. Lawrence hospital in Lansing. A former teacher, lawyer, school official and business leader, he helped found the Gold Reserve life insurance association and helped organize Auto Owners Insurance. He was active in local civic life and once owned Mt. Pleasant Times. He collapsed Thursday on Lansing streets while returning from a reunion.
