During a Monday night electrical storm the home of Mrs. M B Swift in Tangerine was struck by lightning. It damaged a front room and knocked down debris that could have been fatal if someone had slept there. Fire did not break out thanks to the home's superior construction.

At a Tangerine Improvement Society meeting the Community Hall was extended for a Servicemen's Club for the war. The hall now offers games writing tables magazines books and a radio. An opening was held with refreshments as soldiers from fifteen states signed the register. Hostesses will assist during soldiers’ free hours with club committee members cited.

Mount Dora Trucker Killed as Tire Blows
Curtis White, 31, of Mount Dora, was killed Monday night near Astatula when a truck tire blew out. He worked for Brown Lumber and Co. A log crushed him at the steering wheel as the vehicle crashed. Survived by widow Rozie, four daughters, mother, two brothers, two sisters, and a brother in Georgia. Body sent to Uvalde for burial at Smyrna Cemetery.

Paul Hitchcock Mount Dora High School commercial teacher has been commissioned an ensign in the Navy and will depart this week for Harvard University training. Lieut Don Harvey Kimball promoted to first lieutenant at Fort Jackson after earning a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Florida last May. He is Mount Dora High School graduate and son of Harvey Kimball.
