Mount Dora Servicemen's Club Opens For War Effort

The Mount Dora Servicemen's Club at the Yacht Club has operated less than two weeks. hundreds of soldiers visited and local citizens provided facilities free. A substantial yearly budget is needed through public subscription as the war continues, with funds raised by a dedicated Soldier's Fund Drive Committee.

Dan Bishop Retires From Park Board

Mount Dora bids farewell to Dan Bishop known as the Skipper who left for Grand Rapids after resigning from the park board ending 17 years of service. A Navy veteran and civic leader, he spearheaded the Donnelly Park tennis court project and led boy scout and Epworth League activities while in town.

Army Administrative Officer School opens at Florida

A branch of the new Army Administrative Officer Candidate School will open at the University of Florida around October 1 under the Fourth Service Command. The program, run by the Adjutant General, trains enlisted men as officers for general administrative duties to relieve field officers. Eligible students meet physical standards for limited service.

Judge Herlong To Sell 1943 Driver Licenses

Judge Herlong and staff will be in the Chamber of Commerce offices on September 17 and 18 to issue 1943 driver licenses. Present a current license to obtain a new one, or a 1942 license for the whole family. Licenses must be obtained before October 1 with no extension.

The Lake County Defense Council approves joining the Central Florida Blood Bank to be housed in Orlando with Lake County paying 700 dollars. Public subscriptions should cover half the cost, Lake County Chamber of Commerce funds may fill the rest, and 25 dollars has already been donated by Dr. H. G. Holland of Leesburg.

Band Boosters Club to Meet September 24

The Band Boosters Club will hold its first fall meeting Thursday evening September 24 at 7 30 p m in the school auditorium. Attendance is encouraged as plans for the season are discussed. Uniforms for the band arrived this week and will be welcomed by members and supporters. The group plans October events with the band performing in their first formal program. Refreshments will be served and a sale of rings and other items is planned to raise funds.
