Baptist Church in ts announces revival services starting Sunday with morning 10 a.m. and evening 7 30 p.m. Pastor Sutley leads daily sermons on The Development of the Christian Life with Rev Carlos Purgaitis as guest music director and Bevagg soloist. Public invited to attend.

Mrs Gladys Malone hosted Cuban guest Mr Pedro Cajigal from Havana and Mrs Myrtle Emmert of Bradenton Beach for several days. Cajigal owns a large sugar plantation in Cuba and admired Mount Dora saying it was the most beautiful town they had seen in Florida.
The Mount Dora Art League will meet on Wednesday October 30. Members are asked to bring any artwork they did during the summer.
The Lions met for a brief gathering last Friday night inviting members to attend the football game. Guest speaker was Wilbur Stokley from the Portsmouth, Virginia club.
The First Methodist Church opens a School for Christian Workers at 3 PM with Dr. R. Ira Barnett of the Florida Conference Board as instructor. George Gibson leads as dean. Sessions continue Monday through Thursday evenings. Dr. Barnett teaches Evangelism and Christian Education and discusses child and adult psychology teaching methods and church home relationships. Enrollment via Mr. Gibson or Sunday matriculation.
The Sedano House begins its season with Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Allen from Hendersonville NC arriving in early October. Guests include Mrs. Eva Gott from Portland ME, Mr. and Mrs. E. Pulis of Butler NJ, Mr. J. Carroll Ris of Minneapolis MN, and plans for Johnny James to join and stay until November. The upcoming Jenny Purchase and her Shetland dog Donnie are awaited, along with Mr. and Mrs. C. Warren Barry of South Braintree MA. The note praises Mr. Allen’s fishing debut upon arrival, inviting readers to visit and verify the tale.
Cub Scout Pack 19 holds a Community Building meeting Monday October 28 at 7 pm. John Shutts presents a full length sound movie about the Cub Scout movement. All nine to twelve year olds and parents urged to attend. several boys to join Pack 19.
County Judge A S Herlong Jr was elected president of the University of Florida Alumni Association at Homecoming in Gainesville. J Earl Myers of Eustis was elected Lieutenant Governor of the Central Florida Division in the Florida Kiwanis District. Goforth, secretary of the Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce, was elected secretary of the Central Florida Council of Chambers of Commerce at their meeting.

Congressman Hendricks returns to his hometown and opens temporary campaign offices to conduct a brief, thorough campaign for the November 5 elections. He plans to visit the district, contact supporters, make radio broadcasts, advertise in newspapers, and write letters. He will not conduct a speaking tour.
The Woman's Club of Mount Dora met October 16 with president Mrs. Walter D. Patton presiding. Thirty-one new members were admitted and programs for 1946 47 issued. Speaker James Patton discussed Ancient Art and Miss Edith Fairfax Davenport followed with Modern Art insights. Tea followed adjournment. A later political meeting on Get Out the Vote was announced for October 30 at 7:30 p m in the Community auditorium with speaker James Horrell of Orlando.
Kiwanis members heard a talk by Ofederick on the influence of early Spanish settlement in Florida. The speaker traced New World records, colony sites, and the Gulf Stream’s role in treasure ships, noting Castillo de San Marcos as a key fort and naval base that helped open Florida. The lecture highlighted the region’s development and lasting historical impact. The club enjoyed a fish fry hosted by the American Legion at Gilbert Park.
Ed Cherry official of the United States Chamber of Commerce southeastern division was guest of Mount Dora C of C directors at a October 21 luncheon at the Sylvan Shores Hotel. He urged a definite work program and praised the 199 members as a town record, en route to the National Association of Chamber Managers convention in Miami. Also present were Karl Lehmann of Lake County C of C and Ormund Powers of Leesburg.
Dr Glendy G Sadler son of Mr and Mrs Orin W Sadler and grandson of the late Dr Orin W Sadler returns to Mount Dora with his family to open an office in the Donnelly Office Building. He is a Mount Dora High School graduate with a BS and MS from the University of Florida and an MD from Emory. He interned at the Public Health Marine Hospital New Orleans and served in the U S Naval Medical Corps during World War II with epidemiology and tropical disease training at Bethesda. After honorable discharge he worked at the Fl State Hospital and West Virginia hospital before focusing on surgery.
Honorable Millard Caldwell, Florida governor, will be the chief speaker at the Lake County Chamber of Commerce 30th annual meeting in Mount Dora on Thursday November 7. A dinner in the Community Building at 6 30 p m follows the annual meeting with tickets in advance at the Chamber office in Tavares priced at 1 25 per plate.
The Mount Dora Parent-Teacher Association hosts a Halloween Carnival on Thursday October 31. The 6 45 pm costume parade begins at the school football field led by the el Sedano Memorial Band with John Hawkins and a prize for best costume. A 7 30 pm variety show at the Community Building features children in costume singing and dancing plus skits and dances. The event includes a fashion show, gypsy dance, comforts from senior girls, and community business performances. The E B Ferson Gym opens at 8 15 pm for booths and games. Donations for the Country Store booth are requested at Ralph Paul Gulf Station downtown.
Handel's Messiah will be performed Friday or Sunday evening before Christmas at First Methodist Church. It becomes a community project inviting Kiwanis Lions American Legion winter guests and others to join eight weeks of Thursday evening rehearsals at 8:30 at the parish house.
The American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars will host donkey baseball games with teams from the Legion VFW Lions and Kiwanis clubs at Helm Park. Games run October 28 29 and 30 at 6 30 p m with preliminaries Monday and Tuesday and the championship Wednesday. Proceeds benefit the Memorial Home fund.
Youth Sunday at St Thomas Episcopal Church Eustis featured a service led by the young congregants. Readers included Bart Jones Elizabeth Lazaer Julianne Huffman Buddy Arnall Judy Moore Dan Stebbins and Robert Earl Burgreen. The Rev A L Burgreen preached on Born of the Virgin Mary suffered under Pontius Pilate. Next week Girl Scouts guests for Morning Prayer and Sermon at 11 am.
The American Legion Auxiliary runs the Joy Shop to send gifts to hospitalized veterans. Each member a gift from every organization in the state is delivered to veterans unable to shop. Bring new attractive gifts to the meeting on Monday November 4 or send your gift if unable to attend.
George Hall rushed the fire department's small truck to Tangerine on a Monday afternoon to save Henry Terrell's woodyard. The caller warned that the whole yard would burn if not for immediate aid. much firewood was lost but the rest was saved thanks to Hall's prompt response.
Football schedule lists open game on November 1 followed by Groveland Clermont and Umatilla home games at 8 P M at the High School Football Field. Admission 20 cents for elementary, 30 cents for high school, 60 cents for adults including federal tax.
