The Red Cross announces a Baby Development Clinic for the week of October 21 at the Infants Shop third floor of Yowell-Drew-Ivey Company in Orlando. Sessions are 2:30 p.m. Monday, 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Nurse Ethel Ransom of The Bavas Clinic of Chicago led sessions, with individual consultations available.
The Baptist church announces a Bible school at 9:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. worship, training union at 6:15 p.m., evening worship at 7:30 p.m., midweek service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, and choir rehearsal Saturday. Revival preaching and music directed by Carlos Purgailis start Oct 27 with special music by Florence G. Hanscom and chorus.
The Sunday service drew many parishioners and welcomed new residents. Mrs. Robert N. White continues to substitute on organ until a new organist is found. Florida Congregational churches led the nation in last year’s per capita giving through War Victims and Reconstruction, with the local church contributing. Plans for the Woman’s Association meeting are underway, to be held Friday at 3 PM. Dr. Richards has preached on Salvation, and this Sunday he will address What Salvation Really Is.
The All Voters Rally in Eustis features J Harry Schad of Gainesville and M J Moss Jr of Orlando, both U S Congress candidates, along with Clark E Kauffman of Leesburg for the State Legislature. Speakers address campaign issues Monday October 21 at 8 p m at Ferran Park Recreation Center with music by Mildred Byerstadt Hodges and a playset Daily Dilemma. Refreshments will be served. Sponsored by the Lake County Wheelmen Club.
Mr. and Mrs. O. G. Calhoun of Hereford Texas and McCormick South Carolina purchased The Palms, the W. F. Duggart residence on Lake Dora, and plan to return in November as permanent residents. The sale was brokered by Lavonne LaDue Lashar.
Lions Club notes show Bowdish hosting M F Turner and Ray Brand, new Sunoco owner, while Ernest Mosteller discusses fire prevention during Fire Prevention Week. Members plan a Daytona Beach two day meeting and Futch reports on Associated Service Clubs. L J Drawdy Jr, a charter member, was inducted back into the club.
Long list of visitors checked into the Grand View Hotel for the season including Mr. and Mrs. R. Godwin Sorrento Mr. John F. White Danville Ky and Mrs. E. H. Borchardt Belle Glade among many others from Orlando Tampa Miami and New Jersey with Mrs John Medow Shaker Heights Ohio arriving to stay until June.
Fifteen members of Scout Troop 19 spent Sunday at Rock Springs with swimming games and tests. Several scouts completed or advanced in first and second class requirements including axemanship cooking compass pace tracking and fire building. Patrols formed a new contest with a secret activity list and weekly score updates on a roster board.
Miss Frances E Turner of Quincy Massachusetts joins her parents Mr and Mrs Merrill F Turner at Mount Dora Yacht Club after a two week vacation. She is now employed by Attorney W M Kennedy. Mr Turner serves as steward at the Yacht Club where the family have quarters.
Lieutenant Brendler, longtime clarinetist and leader of the United States Navy Band, announced as performing in Orlando on October 18 1846 with two concerts under the Business and Professional Women Club. Tickets available at Robinson Music Company.

The Garden Club of Mount Ora, a division of the Woman's Club, held its inaugural meeting October 10 at the Community Building. Mrs. A. C. Bigelow was elected chairman and Mrs. Mary A. Ross vice chairman with Miss Mary C. Marshall as secretary. The club will meet the second Thursday of each month at 2 30 p.m. Future topics include flower arrangement soil study and buds in the garden. Hostesses were Mrs. T. M. Kramer and Mrs. James A. Nelson. A garden show is planned for early spring and all interested are urged to attend the next meeting.
Mrs Sidney H Lane remains at Fort Myers with son in law James Spooner and daughter after a fall at the Spooner summer home in Balsam North Carolina. A plaster cast is replaced by a steel brace and she uses crutches to move about. The accident postpones a planned visit to Mount Dora to see Mrs A E Davis and Mrs C C Ames.

Miss Jane Sewall fractured her hip on August 1 and had surgery August 14 at New England Baptist Hospital Boston. She returned to South Berwick Maine by ambulance September 28, still in traction, with care from Marion Soule and Marjorie Heald, hoping to be free of the encumbrance by October 18. she marked her 97th birthday October 6.
The 14th district of the Masonic Association will hold its regular quarterly meeting at the Tavares Lodge October 29 at 8 p.m. Supper will be served at 6:30 in the Home Demonstration building. Grand Master Frank A. Brown of Miami and other grand lodge officers will be honored. District includes Tavares Mount Dora Eustis Umatilla Clermont Groveland Leesburg and Wildwood. C. L. Bassett is district grand master in charge of arrangements.
Mount Dora Lodge No. 238 F I A M will hold a regular communication on Thursday October 17 at 8 pm. The program includes First Degree work and war ruins pictures in France shown to the brethren by W L Barnett with a forty five minute lecture. All members and visiting brothers are invited. The Youth Center committee has leased the old ice plant on Charles street for a year or longer and is preparing it for community use. Plans for a new building have been abandoned due to costs, and the former plant will serve indefinitely. The site is being cleaned and renovated for young people, with Fletcher Crane as chairman.

Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Huffard of Knoxville and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ramsey with their son from Grimsley were weekend guests at the R. C. Jarvis home. They joined a sightseeing trip to Silver Springs and Ramsey plans to rent a house on Highland Street to move his family here by November first for the winter.
Esteven and Spirogira at Florida State College for Women tapped new members in convocation honoring students for outstanding service to the school and to rival even and odd classes. Lucille Harding of Mount Dora is among the newly chosen Spiroglra. Members must complete a probation period before full status.
