Sheriff McCall Quicks Response to Wagner Sugar Theft
Willis McCall and Orange County Sheriff Jim Black led a rapid investigation after 1700 pounds of sugar were stolen from the Wagner Canning Plant in Eustis Monday night. By Thursday 1500 pounds were recovered. Suspects include C D Hartley Orlando Cecil Ashton and Bill Ashton Eustis Fort Christmas arrested for grand theft and receiving stolen goods. A Fort Christmas girl was held as a witness in the case and the sugar was found at the Whitner home on Vineland Road and later at Cothron's bakery and garage in Orlando.
