Cookie Jar Fed by Ladies of Baptist Church and Pythian Sisters

The cookie jar at the Service Men's club stayed well stocked from October 4 to 17 thanks to the Baptist church women led by cookie chairwoman Mrs. T. A. Brotherson. Donors included numerous local ladies and others from Lake Jean. From October 18 to 31 the Pythian Sisters take over the duty.

Dora Plymouth road bids announced

Bids for the $750 000 Dora Plymouth road link between Plymouth and Mount Dora will be opened October 29 in Tallahassee announced by C Fred Ward of the State Road Department. Ward fears few bidders due to extensive military construction in Florida.

Lions Club Returns to Winter Meetings

At the Monday Lions Club gathering Rev A A Stanley returns for the winter after summer abroad and plans to resume pulpit duties. Lion Devorsak will join soon for the winter, and Cecil Parker takes a short furlough before entering the Air Corps. P. T. A. Hallowe'en Carnival Planned

The annual P. T. A. Hallowe'en Carnival will be held at the school gymnasium on Saturday October 31 at 7 o'clock. A parade from the football field starts the evening with prizes for the prettiest funniest and most appropriate costumes. An amateur show follows the parade and the carnival booths open in the gym. Lake County Boosts Central Florida Blood Bank Fund

Defense Council reports Lake County will contribute 350 to the Blood Bank Fund with half from public subscriptions and half guaranteed by the Chamber of Commerce. Funds come from towns like Eustis Leesburg Mount Dora Howey Mascotte Montverde and others as quotas are met.

Mosses Hurt In Auto Crash Near Marietta Georgia

Mr and Mrs A G Moss wrote from Marietta Georgia dated October 12 describing a truck collision about a mile from town. Minnie Moss suffered broken ribs and facial injuries requiring stitches. Mr Moss was bruised and shocked with a crushed steering wheel pinning him. Minnie’s condition improved slightly the next day as their car was demolished but glass and tires remained intact.

New England Gas Rationing Affects Mount Dora Lawn Bowling

Restrictions effective October first may bar some former Mount Dora Lawn Bowling Club members from returning. Others will travel by bus or train, while September applicants for an early start South escape. New arrivals include August M. Engelhard of Bridgeport Connecticut and Frank R. Parker of Salem Willows Massachusetts. League play with other clubs is eliminated by transport issues, so district league ideas are proposed with district captains to field weekly teams. Mount Dora School Band Shines In Full Uniform Concert

A capacity Mount Dora audience enjoyed a gala concert by the school band in new orange and black uniforms under director Manuel J. Sedano. The group, formed January 1941 with nine members, now has forty players and a growing training roster. The Band Boosters Club owns instruments valued at 2438, while members’ instruments total 1270. The school music library cost 280 and uniforms 600, bringing total investments to 4588. Drivers Corps Handbooks Mailed to Lake County Units

Handbooks for Drivers' Corps, a 124 page manual for civilian defense volunteers in transportation, were mailed by the Lake County Defense Council to local defense councils. Some councils are fully organized while others are forming. Interested drivers with cars should contact Mr. O. M. Simpson, commander of the Mount Dora Citizens Defense Corps.
