The Lake Crate and Lumber Co employs about 250 people for citrus crates and vegetable containers. Citrus Culture Ever makes fertilizers for groves. Floriorange Canneries operates a modern plant for citrus juices under Florida Finest and Floriorange. Wise Boat Works on Lake Dora builds pleasure boats. The town also hosts beauty shops, groceries, meat markets, a large variety store, barber shops, banks, garages, an auto agency, gift shops, ladies wear, an auto body shop, bakeries, a pool hall, a dancing school, hotels, a barbecue shop, and a moving picture theater. Hotel Mount Dora Opens Season With Renovations

The Hotel Mount Dora and its Coffee Shoppe begin the season today after a full renovation. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Broom manage the hotel with Mr. and Mrs. Thomas David in charge of the dining room. The property features redecorated rooms, new furnishings, and a bright lobby with tropical paintings and a map of lakes and roads. The thirty bedrooms include private baths, and both owners plan a successful season in Mount Dora.

Michigan man buys Fifth Avenue home in Mount Dora

Northern states citizens flock to Mount Dora as William Schmid and wife from Bronson Michigan purchase the brick house at 632 Fifth Avenue known as the Dooley house. They move in for the winter with Ralph Strage and Schmid, an official of H A Douglas Manufacturing, plan extensive improvements. deal handled by A C Quixley Realty Co.

Wingler pair reel in big lake bass haul

W. P. Wingler known as Bill and his son Woodrow or Bud display a lake fishing medal for a morning catch. Four bass weighed 9 7 6 and 5 pounds with about fifteen more released. Bill says getting soaked was worth the effort.

Barefooted Traveler Preaches Across Regions

A transient preacher named Elimalech Lerner draws attention with a six inch badge reading The Cross is the Mark of the Beast. Born in Russia and raised in New Jersey, he says he was an atheist until twelve years ago when he found the Lord in California and now travels the country proclaiming salvation and warning against the Antichrist. He has no denomination and itinerates through states including California Florida Michigan Indiana and New Jersey as he seeks to spread his interpretation of the Mark of the Beast.

The Mount Dora Art League stages National Art Week in early November with local artists’ work shown in shop windows. A meeting at president Mrs Emma Marsh’s home discussed winter plans and a first regular meeting set for Tuesday November 2 at Mrs Marsh’s residence. Membership costs one dollar.

Local Doctors Attend International Medical Assembly

Dr. S. C. Colley of this city travels to St. Louis Missouri for the International Medical Assembly to study various phases of the profession. He will be away about a week. Dr. Leroy Oetjen of Leesburg and Dr. R. H. Williams of Eustis also attend the Institute.

Mr. Ames Improves After DeLand Car Crash

Mr. C. C. Ames, hospitalized in DeLand after a car crash into a post caused by a bee in the car, is improving and sat up briefly. His son Howard Ames, from Waukegan Illinois, arrived to stay in DeLand and plans to return home at week’s end. Mr. Ames has six fractured ribs and will travel to Mount Dora when comfortable.

S R Doyle registrar at Florida State College for Women Tallahassee is elected Florida district governor of Kiwanis International at the state convention in St Augustine. He completes a term as lieutenant governor of the western division and is in his 2nd year of perfect attendance. He also presides over the Florida Association of Colleges and Universities.
