A year after a showing at Gilbert Park, the Lions Club auction returns this Saturday with plans to avoid rain and repeat the event’s familiar community sale atmosphere.

Mount Dora to vote on 1970 71 budget biggest ever

Mount Dora City Council will vote on October 20 to accept a proposed budget over 1.3 million dollars, the largest in the city's history. The Electric Department gets the largest share and the biggest increase, aimed at updating the power system to prevent shortages. The budget includes a six percent across the board raise for city employees, and the Police Department gains funds for two new cars and a 40 hour week. Several departments receive raises while some like Street and Recreation are cut. Road paving funds for East Town are cut and a sinking fund may fund future improvements. The city also carries two bond issues from 1961 sewer and electrical upgrades and a 400,000 bond program for buildings and capital improvements.

Lion’s Club to Hold Tenth Annual Auction at Gil bert Park

The Lion’s Club plans a Saturday auction at Gilbert Park starting 1 p.m. featuring items called White Elephants. Proceeds benefit local sight conservation. call local sponsors to donate or arrange item pickup. barbecue begins at 4 p.m. and drawings run through 7 p.m.
