At Tuesday night’s Mount Dora City Council meeting two proposed tax increases were presented, one at city level and one at county level. Councilman Al Rehbaum III suggested a 3.5 mills levy for 1972, totaling about 3.50 per year for each $1,000 of property assessment above the homestead exemption, with funds to be allocated for unspecified municipal purposes.
City official Ty Parker seeks donors for a steak dinner as a reward to Mount Dora High School Key Club members who clear hyacinths from Gilbert Park lakefront on October 17. The county and city coordinate a cleanup with a loader and haul away equipment.
Rehbaum explains a sinking fund plan to pay for street paving drainage sewers and garbage collection as a pay as you go. A 1.6 mill County tax increase will appear on the November 3 ballot as a bond issue. Funds will be used by the School Board to build two consolidated high schools in Lake County.
