New Sales Tax Revenues Show Sharp Increase

Florida Revenue Commission reports August sales tax receipts at 17.5 million, up 23 percent from 1962. Lake County September collections rose to 134,786 from 112,605, as expanded tax law took effect July 1. Fiscal year totals exceed 50 million with about 15 percent growth.

W. M. Kennedy Funeral Services Saturday

Funeral services for W. M. Red Kennedy, prominent Lake County attorney, were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Methodist Church with Rev. William T. Blair officiating. Kennedy, a former Lake Sumter Bar Association president, died after a long illness. He was born July 28, 1891, in Big Stone Gap Virginia and practiced law in Tavares before moving to Mount Dora. He held multiple local posts including Lake County Prosecutor, Kiwanis, and chamber roles, leaving a 35 year Kiwanis attendance record. Burial followed at Pine Forest Cemetery. Rehbaum Funeral Home arranged services.
