Light turnout in Mount Dora runoff voting
Voter turnout was light at three Mount Dora area polls on Tuesday with 372 ballots cast in precincts 20 20A and 40. In statewide races Bill Gunter led Richard Stone for the U S Senate nomination 268 to 104 while Bruce Smathers beat Beverly Dozier for Secretary of State 200 to 159. Gerald Lewis defeated Bud Dickinson for Comptroller 223 to 133 and Gordon Brown edged JoAnn Saunders 182 to 168 for the Fifth Congressional District Democratic nomination.

Park Board Action Deferred to November Meeting
The Park Board delayed action to the first November Council meeting as the CofC Youth and Education Committee prepares a recommendation for the Chamber's Directors later this month. John Hetherington of Pasco Volunteer Fire Department sought a one-year renewal of the hydrant use agreement with Mount Dora west of the city, with charges of 5 for a drill and 7.50 for a fire per use. Fire committee head Brandon Wald will review the matter before a decision.

IceHouse stage opens its season with Dracula running October 31 to November 3 in Mount Dora.
