Mount Dora City Council set a 2,105,029.34 dollar budget for 1974/75 starting Oct 1. The plan funds an 8 percent cost of living raise for all city employees and adds three police dispatchers. Fire adds one firefighter, with funds found by trimming department expenses.
Mount Dora police report a surge of crime from Thursday night to Monday morning including an armed robbery, five break ins and three car pilferings. Two suspects are being pursued, with possible links to earlier thefts. A major incident Saturday saw Mr and Mrs Mittendorf hostage for 45 minutes in Villa Dora, a gunmen demanding the safe and fleeing with about 300 dollars and jewelry. The pair escaped after Mrs Mittendorf cut her husband’s bonds. Suspects described as two young men with one armed with a .38 revolver.
