Kiwanis Mails Holiday Letters From Mount Dora

The Mount Dora Kiwanis Club mailed Christmas letters to more than 25 local servicemen. Edgerton Attends Florida State Chamber Meeting

Mount Dora resident Mr. Richard Edgerton attended the 51st Annual Florida State Chamber of Commerce meeting in Jacksonville on November 21 and 22. The theme was Florida's Dynamic Tomorrow with talks on 2000 prospects including a new Auto Train tourist scheme set to start by 1969. The Florida Travel Council promotes the Friendly Floridian campaign urging citizen participation.

Lake Coleman Receives Accredited Rural Appraiser Title

The American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers named Lake W. Coleman an Accredited Rural Appraiser at its annual Chicago meeting on November 27. Coleman, linked with the W. T. East Town Exceeds UA Goal in Fund Drive

East Town surpasses its United Appeal goal of 350 dollars with total contributions of 369 dollars. The drive, led by the East Town Progressive Citizens Club and chaired by Robert E. Terrell Jr., involved churches Milner Rosenwald Academy and other groups coordinating donations, building on last year's 332 from a 300 goal.

Lake Leaders Attend State Cancer Society Meeting

Captain H. G. Drake and Mrs. Drake led the Lake County Unit of the American Cancer Society at the 20th annual State Cancer Society meeting held at the Princess Martha Hotel in St. Petersburg. Also present were Mrs. Selma Pearce of Eustis and Mrs. Mercedes Proctor of Mount Dora. The group emphasized research as the key to conquering cancer.

Real Estate Sales Course Offered in Eustis

Lake County salesmen must file applications with the Florida Real Estate Commission in Winter Park by December 4 to enroll in a 15 week UF course on Real Estate Principles and Practices. The program, taught in Eustis, runs January to April weekly. registrations and fees due by December 7. About 6,000 salesmen have completed the course in two years. forms are from John T. Rotary Club Mount Dora Adopts Indigent Child Aid Program

At a Mount Dora Rotary luncheon the club approved continuing aid for indigent children with eye troubles, making it a major program under director supervision. Rep William Reedy spoke on highway safety, corrected welfare estate claims, and outlined Florida driver reforms including state issuance of licenses, color photo cards, eye and hearing checks, chemical tests for drunk driving, and compulsory vehicle inspections.

Central Florida's Largest Christmas Parade Mount Dora Jaycees

The 10th annual Jaycee Christmas Parade in Mount Dora starts at 2 p m on December 9 and is billed as Central Florida s largest parade Santa arrives on the City of Mount Dora float and will distribute candy after the parade in Donnelly Park. Nine bands participate and numerous floats are sponsored by local banks businesses and organizations with many civic groups contributing homemade floats. Parade officials urge participants to respond and the procession runs from Donnelly Street to Gilbert Park with sheriffs and other law enforcement leading and Dwight Mosteller as grand parade marshal.

Food drive barbecues feed parade watchers at Donnelly Park

December 9 event at Donnelly Park offers two barbecues. The American Legion Jr Rifle Club serves from noon to 7 p.m. for 1.50 per plate, and Explorers Post No 19 serves chicken from noon to 5 p.m. at 1.50 per plate. Food can be delivered by calling 383-2084 or 383-3504.

Indoor Art Show by Mount Dora Art League Scheduled

The Mount Dora Art League hosts its 42nd Annual Indoor Art Show on December 8 at the Community Building. Doors open 12 noon to 9 p.m. Admission is free. Margaret Tietjen to give an oil painting as a door prize. Public votes for favorite painting. six ribbons awarded. Members bring up to three paintings by 9 a.m. December 8. The league, formed in 1926, once hosted the Florida Federation of Art and included a Villa Dora Hotel dinner and Dora Canal cruise for members.

FHP To Award Citations For No Auto Fatalities

The Lake County Safety Council meets at Lancer's Restaurant in Leesburg to honor nine Lake County mayors with safety citations for 1966 no automobile fatalities. Mount Dora is excluded due to a 1966 death. County employees will begin Defensive Driving courses in January, and Leesburg is praised for already adopting the program.
