Mount Dora residents heard the five candidates explain why they seek City Council seats in the December 12 election. Mayor Jesse Wilmott, unopposed for a fourth term, pledged continued service and the dignity of the office. Other contenders Frank Bassett Bob Bennett Fred Compton Thurmond Dodson and incumbent Tommy Houser shared plans to improve city streets, growth management, and citizen representation while stressing public duty and community leadership.

Measles Sunday Vaccination Event In Mount Dora
On Sunday December 10 the Tavares Junior Woman's Club sponsors a free measles vaccination for children over one year from 1 to 6 pm in the Bank of Mount Dora lobby. Doctors Cox Eichler and Whitney will administer by air gun, with health cards issued and parents signing records. Lake County Medical Society backs the event to prevent measles complications including mental retardation and blindness. City seeks $300000 bond for major improvements
City Council moved to issue 300000 in revenue bonds backed by cigarette tax and sanitation revenue to fund a new public works and utility complex, a police and fire complex, street paving and beautification. Mount Dora Youth Bus Goes to All Groups
Mount Dora Troop 71 led a drive with civic clubs the Swim Club and St Edwards Church to buy a retired Lake County school bus painted orange and white as the Mount Dora Youth Bus. The non profit vehicle will serve youth activities, with a small user fee, insured through the South Florida Diocese and inspected by the Florida Highway Patrol and school maintenance staff.
