The Mount Dora Woman's Club held a meeting led by president Mrs Wal D Pest ton with nine new members welcomed. The Literary committee sponsored an early program featuring Mrs James R McDonald who spoke on poetry and recited verses from Emily Dickinson Stevenson Field Milne Riley Frost Daly and others. Hostesses were Mrs James F Smith and Mrs Richard M Brown with Miss Alice Davis and Mrs Arthur P Bigelow pouring at tea.

Lake County Children's Committee names subcommittee heads

Chairmen and counsellors for three sub committees of the Lake County Children's Committee were chosen at the first meeting in Eustis. Mrs. R. J. Dalton of Tavares named chairman health sub committee. J. E. Bevis of Tavares chaired recreation and education. Rev. Carl E. Bates of Leesburg named counsellor for that group. The delinquent and dependent children sub committee lists Rev. Hugh Embry of Clermont and County Judge A. S. Herlong Jr. of Tavares as counsellor. Members to be announced later. Community Thanksgiving Service at First Methodist Church

Christmas Seals Sent In Lake County Tuberculosis Drive

Mrs. R F E Cooke president of the Lake County Tuberculosis and Health Association announces that Christmas Seals were mailed to residents on Monday November 25. Lake County’s seal sale returns last year were the highest per capita in the state. Seals raise funds for local work with 82 percent spent in Lake County, 13 percent to state activities, and 5 percent to the National Association.

Notice to unregistered voters for December town election

Citizens not on the town registration roll must register by December 7 to vote in the Town Election on December 10. A previous notice misstated the date as December 18. The election occurs on the second Tuesday of December.

Two eight pounders lure at Sedano House fishing tale

Mr A B Allen winter guest at Sedano House clung to his line as a bass dragged line and sinker to the lake bottom. He dove after the pole but the bass escaped. Later he reeled in two eight pounders on one hook and line without a sinker.

Mount Dora prepares a nine hole golf course on land east of Highland avenue near Robie street with play expected by December 15. The non profit oeana Golf Club has 91 charter members and plans a caddie house pro shop and future clubhouse as membership interest grows.

Local hotels and the Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce ran ads in northern papers last week to keep the town visible to winter visitors. Advertisements echoed last year’s campaign, though Mount Dora still lacks enough apartments or cottages to meet demand. The Chamber notes strong inquiry volume and mails a personal reply with a visitor folder to each inquiry.
