The Baptist Church Bible School reports 9 45 a m classes with 240 enrolled and 174 attended last Sunday. Morning worship at 11 and a 7 30 p m service. youth groups meet Monday and Tuesday. midweek prayer and Bible study Wednesday. Choir led by Mrs Florence G Hanscom.
Sunday morning worship at 11 features special music by the Chancel Choir under John M Hawkins. Reverend George Gibson preaches on O Come O Come Emmanuel. Evening service at 7 30 includes Chapel and Chancel Choirs with Reverend W E Bancroft delivering the sermon. Sunday School begins at 9 45 with all ages. youth groups meet at 6 30. midweek worship replaced by Congregational Dinner Wednesday at 7. nursery for preschoolers. services open to the public.
Woman's Association hosts a Christmas program with a reading by Fred eric A. Dewhurst titled The Magi in the West and their Search for the Christ. An offering to aid starved abroad will be collected and refreshments follow in the social hour. Mrs. Esther Wyatt Bishop sings next Sunday and Dr. Richards preaches on Religion as a Journey.
The Church of Christ on Fifth Avenue schedules Lord's Day Bible study at 10:00 a.m. and preaching with communion at 11:00 a.m. An evening service is at 7:00 p.m. A Tuesday men's Bible study and Ladies Bible study at 7:30 p.m. along with Thursday all are 7:30 p.m. events invite visitors.
Last Friday night two new Lions, Bob Caudel and J M Greene, were inducted into the club. Lion Bob Sadler hosted his brother Gould Sadler at the Grandview Hotel as the affair was announced to be a dinner dance cabaret style. A committee promises a lively, no-fine party, with advance notice to hold the 27th for a good time while urging continued attendance at meetings.
The Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce asks winter visitors to register at the chamber office on Fifth Avenue. Harold Goforth says the registry helps locate visitors and aid them while here. The chamber also maintains a directory for new permanent residents. 48 winter visitors have registered so far this year.
Central Florida Cham ville to Vero Beach will hold its December breakfast at Lakeside Inn Mount Dora. David J. Kepner of Benton & Bowles Advertising Agency and executive in charge of the Florida Citrus Commission advertising will discuss the commission’s advertising program for the year. G. B. Hurlburt secured the speaker for the Mount Dora Growers Cooperative. citrus industry participants will find the talk of special interest.
The Woman's Club hosts a Christmas Coffee at 1 PM on Wednesday December 18 in the Community Building social rooms. At 3 PM a theatre program features The Wedding of the Wooden Soldier and the China Doll performed by Mrs. Paul H. Johnson's dancing pupils. All families and friends are invited to enjoy singing and dancing as Yuletide approaches.
Mr. E. L. Dean of 1011 Gorham Street hosts son Paul S. Dean and daughter in law from Greenville Maine. First Florida visit for two days includes a trip to Bok Tower to view citrus groves and a half day at Silver Springs. They regret not meeting Mount Dora and praise the eight hour air time from Maine.
Mount Dora Girl Scouts will sell Christmas wreaths and sprays to raise funds for troop expenses. Wreaths cost 2 to 5 dollars and sprays 1 to 3 dollars, with prices rising due to higher paint costs. Orders appreciated in advance. contact Mrs. Crane, Mrs. James Nelson, or any troop member.

Prof. D. D. Roseborough has been notified that Mount Dora High School is recommended for unqualified accreditation by the Florida committee to the Central Reviewing Committee of the Southern Association meeting in Memphis Tennessee in December. Mount Dora High has long been on the accredited list. There are 120 Florida schools accredited by the Southern Association and over a dozen others have applied for approval.
The Mount Dora Golf Club will hold its first winter season meeting on Monday at 8 p m at the Mount Dora Yacht Club on Fourth Avenue and Lake Dora. Commodore W M Kennedy invites golfers and friends and requests full attendance. A directors meeting will follow at the Yacht Club.
Five members of the Mount Dora Art League travel to Clearwater for a two day Florida State Art Conference. The party includes president Mrs A P Bigelow and other officers, with plans to visit St. Petersburg and nearby interests before returning. Charles E Shaw serves as state conference vice president.
The Pythian Sisters schedule a food and apron sale on Saturday December 14 starting at 9 30 a m at the L A Tremain office on Donnelly Avenue.

The First Methodist Church Jacksonville plans a Wednesday dinner at 7 o clock with Dr. Boyd of Jacksonville as speaker. Orlando District Lay Leader Mr. W B Janes and Orlando District Superintendent Dr. Paul Fletcher will attend. Rev Gibson will outline conference goals and building progress.
Members of the commercial class completed a census for the new city directory. If no one was home and you wish to be included, send names and addresses of all permanent residents over eighteen to the Chamber of Commerce.

A 26 November 1946 town council meeting set the date for the December 10 municipal election and approved nominations for two year terms for Richard Eddy Otis Hale and Roland Morse a one year term for Lillian Christie and five year Park Board member Harry Hopcraft. The council also accepted a bid of 38605.50 from M J Carroll Contracting Co Leesburg and authorized ballot preparation.
The Chamber reports 15 percent of member questionnaires returned with strong suggestions for next year's program. Harold Goforth notes good quality input and thanks members for their time. The board will discuss suggestions on December 9 and begin planning the 1947 program. late returns are welcome before the meeting.
Mrs Arthur W Bertine state president and Mrs Harold Over hiser state corresponding secretary attended the thirteenth annual Florida Branch convention of the International Order of The King's Daughters and Sons at Coral Gables November 20 21 22 A song honoring Mrs Bertine was sung at the banquet attended by over two hundred people.
At the Kiwanis meeting the football team and senior Scout troop were guests as they close their season. Ray Jr. Blanchard, lost aboard the Franklin, was honored with a bronze plaque and an Eagle badge presented by the Kiwanis and Scout representatives. Bill Barnett will present moving pictures from his France trip at today's program.
The December 2 council meeting discussed abolishing nuisance noise from a Paint Shop at Donnelly and Ninth, study of its legality, and a raised curb option on Grandview Street. Breckenridge submitted willingness to gauge property owners' payment for curb costs. Gar Wood Garbage presented disposal stats. Light Department plans a new truck with winch for 1625 dollars. A liquor ordinance amendment proposes reducing the distance prohibition from 2500 to 1500 feet from churches.
Mount Dora High School seniors Lucille Minkley and Doris Harding will take a College Entrance Examination Board aptitude test on February 14 to compete for Pepsi-Cola Scholarship Board four year college scholarships and 600 fifty dollar certificates. Winners announced April 18. The prize includes full tuition and fees for four years at any accredited U.S. college, plus twenty five dollars monthly and travel expenses at three cents per mile for one round trip.

Goldie Gaskins of Mascotte is the State Canning Champion with 2083 jars in five years of 4-H work and earns a trip to the National 4-H Club Congress in Chicago from Kerr Glass Corp. Other Lake County youths including Joyce Merrit Betty Lou Watkins Marjorie Grant Thelma McCraney Ame Pike C Prevedel and Jack Parker receive county awards for projects in electricity yard and food topics dairy poultry and meat animals. Danforth Foundation honors 4-H boy Jack Parker for outstanding service in the past year.
