Rare Birds Return to Everglades Park After Storm
Jim Durden, game warden for the Everglades National Park project, reports birds are rebounding after the Labor Day 1935 storm. He notes higher birth rates among male pups, and a return to near normal numbers for species like the snowy egret and great egret, with increased water circulation aiding life in the Keys. Durden points to uncharted canals and ancient mounds, suggesting the area’s value to visitors as Everglades National Park develops.
