Florida Citrus Industry Estimated At 80 Million Year

The 1936 37 Florida citrus crop is estimated to bring over 80 million dollars to the state. About 45 million went to growers, with the rest spent within Florida on hauling, crates, labor, taxes, and related costs. Production reached a record 40 million boxes across all classes, with oranges about 19 279,000 boxes grapefruit 17,861,029 and tangerines 3,016,481.

Townsendites To Hold Meeting Here

The Fifth Congressional District Townsend National Recovery Plan clubs will meet at the Community Building on Sunday November 28. Morning session at 9 will cover district board activities and a 2 pm mass meeting with a musical program led by Wise Orchestra and songs by Mrs. Sparling and Mrs. Tyler of Orlando. Mayor Simpson will give a welcoming address and F Manley Goldsberry of Chicago will deliver the principal address with a message from Dr. Townsend. H C Hoodelmier will open a new packing house on Coralando Highway 441, with plans to finish driveways and parking later. He will not ship fruit before December first to ensure ripeness and avoid disappointing customers, citing growing demand and a mail order business.

Mount Dora Water Rated Very Good by State Board

Florida State Board of Health reports Mount Dora water as very good in bacterial and sanitary quality after analyses of two samples. Lab counts show total bacterial counts of 70 and 130 in 24 hours with no fermentation or colon presence, deeming the supply among the state’s best for purity and softness.

Epworth League reorganizes elects officers at Mount Dora church

The Epworth League at Mount Dora M. E. Church was reorganized Sunday night with many high school youths attending at the parsonage invited by Rev. Rogers. Officers elected include President Richard Von Voorhis and VPs Marion Von Voorhis Julian Drawdy Pomona Davidson Russell Grandy Frances Davis, Secretary Treasurer Joann French, Reporter Geraldine Richardson, Pianists J W Shaw Winifred Harding. Refreshments followed and games were played as the group aims to be a strong, prosperous organization.

Mount Dora Yacht Club Seas Will Test Thanksgiving Day

The white wings of Mount Dora sail on Thanksgiving Day for tests before a Saturday race. Boats of the old fleet are being sanded, painted and refitted to vie for windward starts. The event introduces a comet class and features vessels like a starboat, a 21 foot day cruiser, a 16 foot dinghy, Spray an 18 footer and Poise a 17 foot racer.

Mr. M. Short and two witnesses recount a Lake Apopka incident aboard Capt. Wise's Dora. They caught a 10 pound bass on a flat fish plug that had a full grown coot inside its throat. The bird's feet protruded as it was removed from the fish.

Shuffleboard Club Elects Officers For Coming Season

The Mount Dora Shuffleboard Club held its organization meeting Friday in the Chamber of Commerce office. Miss Susan Doleman and her mother Mrs Margaret Doleman of Northampton Mass arrived this week and stay at the Hotel Simpson. They were given a Chamber of Commerce four weeks subscription to the Topic in 1936 and chose to visit Mount Dora after enjoying the newspapers they kept. They found Mount Dora exactly as pictured and are enjoying their stay.
