A World War II serviceman, assigned to a medical unit on the western front, is currently taking a refresher course at Macon. He was a German prisoner from August 1944 to May 1945 and kept a diary that is expected to be published in a major monthly magazine's January issue.

Civic club talks by Navy Nurse Lt Gamble and Lt Cole plus Sgt Zajac spurred more sales and credit toward hospitalization units for Florida servicemen.
The Osteopathic Student Loan Fund Committee of the American Osteopathic Association releases the fifteenth annual Christmas seals to support osteopathic students. Seals cost $1 per sheet of 100 and feature a red round back with a silver star and Santa in silver, with the phrase greetings in red on a silver background. They are available from osteopathic hospitals, colleges, or directly from the committee at 139 North Clark Street, Chicago 2, Illinois.

The Lake County Chapter of the Red Cross increases its 1946 budget to about 17525, up from 11400, to fund expanded home service for veterans and families. A new home service secretary, Florence A Friery of Howey, starts duties. William J Barker, Mount Dora, presented a German Red Cross flag after 27 months overseas.
The Lake County Board of Realtors received the state honor at the Florida Realtors Convention in Daytona Beach for outstanding community service and contributions to local, state, and national associations. Secretary S. H. Bowman of Clermont submitted the achievements. Miami and Tampa boards placed second and third.
Mamie R Schopke 52 of Plymouth died in an Orlando hospital on Monday after a brief illness. Survived by husband Robert E Schopke and 3 brothers and 4 sisters. Graveside services at Bay Ridge Cemetery Friday at 3 p.m. Pallbearers named.

The Navy announces new enlistment terms widening options to 2 3 4 or 6 year contracts for men aged 17 to 31. Reenlistment and first enlistment are covered with eligibility rules for older applicants based on prior service. The 1945 Voluntary Recruitment Act adds more incentives, and Recruiter Chief C M Len at Navy Station Orlando pledges full information to qualified applicants.
