Hendricks Tours Mount Dora on Post Office Plans

Congressman Joe Hendricks spent two hours in Mount Dora last Friday discussing an $85,000 post office building and how 14 towns in his district are eligible for new federal facilities totaling about $1.6 million. Four Lake County towns including Mount Dora, Eustis, Tavares and Clermont may receive buildings within three years, depending on inter department decisions based on need. He pledged to advocate for Mount Dora but cautioned he cannot promise funding.

German Ordnance Map Brought To Red Cross For Workers

William Jay Barker, Red Cross Field Director, returned from Berlin District with a large scale German ordnance map of a Scottish area. The map shows topography and routes with a western Germany road map on the reverse side. Red Cross used these maps for workers and preserved scarce paper by reusing them for future distributions.

Baptist Church Bible School and Evening Services Schedule

This Sunday morning the Mount Baptist Church will hold monthly winter services with congregational singing and a program including negro spirituals performed by Mr Swayne bass soloist and professional concert singer. Admission is free and the public is welcome.

Baltimore Couple Visits Mount Dora Parents

Lt and Mrs Henry Page of Baltimore return this week after a three week visit with Col and Mrs Henry Page of Mount Dora. Lt Page just came from the Pacific after Okinawa and other campaigns and expects Army release soon. They were impressed by Mount Dora and were especially fond of the swimming.

Lawrence Owens discharged after three years five months, served overseas in Northern France, awarded medals. Capt R B Strawn stationed on Luzon with the Signal Corps training school. Three Morse Brothers Return Home From Navy Service

The Morse family sees three sons released from military duty. Capt Chester W Morse, once a German prisoner, plans a visit to Macon Missouri with his wife and baby. Specialist John H Morse has been discharged and stays in Brockton Massachusetts. Harry Morse, a V-12 program student, completed an accelerated medical course and will pursue further studies.

Union Thanksgiving Service at Mount Dora Baptist Church

The annual community Thanksgiving service will be held at 11 o clock Thursday morning in the Mount Dora Baptist church. Pastor Gibson of the Methodist church will deliver the sermon with participation by Pastor Richards of the Community church and Pastor Sutley of the Baptist church. Choir members from all three churches are urged to attend and join in the musical program.

Chamber of Commerce Plans Winter Activities and Issues

The Chamber of Commerce board met to plan winter events and discuss advertising amid lodging shortages. They considered replacing the Mount Dora road sign at Barberville and addressing water hyacinths choking the Apopka Canal. Jack Simpson and Paul Milner were named to study canal clearing and fence repairs. Carl Graves to represent the Chamber on the winter program. A Friday meeting will review committee reports.
