Lieut. and Mrs. Charles Woodfin Ezzard return to Winter Garden for a ten day leave to visit their parents. Ezzard trained at Ft. Washington Md and earned a commission as second lieutenant in the Adjutant General's department on November 11. He previously taught at Mount Dora and Apopka High School before joining the Army, and served at Camp Blanding and Fort Bragg where he was promoted to staff sergeant before attending the Officer Candidate School.

A Tuesday night practice blackout in Mount Dora proceeded smoothly with wardens notifying residents who missed alarms. Signals timed 9 00 9 15 and 9 29 with all civilian defense heads reporting before the red signal. In a drill a 100 lb unexploded bomb was located on Helen street prompting street cordons and evacuation.
