Clergy change at Mount Dora church praised by Dr Ketcham

Dr Heber D Ketcham preached at the Mount Dora Methodist Church after Rev Floyd Cooper left for army chaplain duties and Rev Claxton Doggett was appointed new pastor with his wife aiding his leadership The sermon drew on Psalm 1 3 and portrayed the life of a righteous person through tree and seasonal imagery.

Government seeks worn silk and nylon hose for collection

The government asks for old silk and nylon stockings starting Monday November 16. Collections run through retail stores selling women's hosiery with Mount Dora handling by Mrs. Spilky at the Grand Leader. Women should save wash and bring worn silk and nylon stockings only. Other garments are not required.

T B and H Association Plans Education Program

Under the Lake County Tuberculosis and Health Association’s sponsorship a 34 program education schedule runs from November 11 in schools and communities. Programs include school assemblies, community groups, PTA meetings, talks, exhibits, and health pictures shown by volunteers to aid war effort and curb rising tuberculosis deaths in wartime.

Staff Sergeant William R. Rothe enlisted in December 1940 in Orlando. His postings took him from Drew Field in Tampa to Jefferson Barracks, Rantoul, Selfridge, Florence, Wilmington, Grenier Field, Camp Dix, then overseas to northern Ireland and England. His current location beyond England remains unclear.

Armistice Day Observed in Mount Dora Parade and Service

Armistice Day was fittingly observed in Mount Dora with a downtown parade ending at Donnelly Park’s Legion monument. Color bearers from the American Legion Post led the procession followed by School, Battery C Coast Artillery, Scout troops, Legion groups, and Red Cross units. An outdoor program featured Col. Sam Brabson as speaker while volunteers built a cat-walk for aircraft warning observers.
