The Lake County Tuberculosis and Health Association opens its annual Christmas Seals sale in Lake County with Mrs. J. D. Pease of Mount Dora as chair. If at least 10 cents per capita is raised, 78 percent stays for county tuberculosis work, with an extra 1 percent due to an active negro committee. Florida’s tuberculosis death rate fell from 70.0 per 100 000 in 1930 to 48.8 in 1940, aided by health groups and seal drives funding treatment, X rays, and education. Tuberculosis remains the leading cause of death among ages 5 to 14 in the United States, killing over 30,000 yearly.
