Girl Flier Survives 24 Hours in Marsh After Plane Crash

Miss Louise Luker, 23, an air trainee at Cannon Mills Orlando, crash landed in marsh near Zellwood after storm. She wandered swamp for hours, reached a pump house Monday afternoon, and was treated in Mount Dora. Plane damaged, but she survived with cuts and fatigue.

Stores to Close Thursday for Armistice Day Observance

All stores, the bank, and the post office will close all day Thursday to allow observers to watch the Armistice Day parade and attend the 11 o'clock program. The parade is set for about 10:15.

Children’s Home Choir Sings Sunday at Mount Dora

The Florida Methodist Children’s Home senior chorus of twenty-two senior youths will perform a sacred concert at 8 p m Sunday November 14 at Mount Dora Methodist Church. Rev Caxton Doggett pastor. The Rev Donald Dickson of Jacksonville filled the pulpit last Sunday in morning and evening services. Sgt Richard Krejchi of Cleveland sings and leaves Mount Dora. A 15 minute song service starts at 7 30 each evening with the young people's choir leading.

Observers Report Plane Crash Near Mount Dora

Observers on duty in Mount Dora reported a light plane crash in the Apopka Marsh. The pilot, a young woman named Louise Luker of Orlando, was brought to Mount Dora for first aid. Army personnel in Orlando coordinated the response. The incident followed reports that civilian, Army, and Navy planes had been out all night seeking the missing pilot.

Lake County War Finance committee reports November bond quotas by community with Ferndale first to reach its $60 target on November 5, the earliest in the year a locality achieved its quota. Other towns list varied totals, including Leesburg at $27,600 and Mount Dora at $11,500.

Lake County Increases Cabbage Planting To 600 Acres

Six hundred acres are being planted to cabbage in Lake County this season, up from last year, county agent R. E. Norris reports. Harvest of 600 acres of sweet potatoes is under way with fair to good yields. The Lake orange crop is above normal in quantity and quality, while the tangerine crop is improving.

Service Men's Club closes week with farewell for Mount Dora boys

The Mount Dora Service Club ends a busy week with 594 boys served and heartfelt farewells. Hostesses praise the boys for their gratitude and volunteer help, especially during caretaker changes. Captain Reynolds and Lt Hantnett are wished luck, and Dr. Frances Poole is thanked for a table baseball game. A Birthday Dance honored October and November births with a decorated club and cake.

Mount Dora hosts a Armistice Day parade and program marking the 25th anniversary of the WWI armistice. Band Receives Gold Plated Trumpet Gift in Mount Dora

The Mount Dora School Band received a gold plated trumpet from Mr W E Holler. The instrument is valued at about 200 and cannot be duplicated today. Buddy White solo trumpeter will play it. The band performs in the Armistice Day parade and a following program on Thursday.

Lawn Bowling Youth and Healthful Fun Ahead

The Mount Dora lawn bowling scene invites men and women to learn the sport now while the season is young. Courts near the lake shore open at 9 15 and 2 15 daily except Sundays with bowls loaned and friendly players to guide newcomers. New arrivals include William E Breckenridge and others from New York Pennsylvania New Jersey, with well wishes from Bob Decker who plans side line duty in January. Losses are noted as longtime members have left, with sympathy offered for the Hill family and others.
