Eastern Star Plans Planting Tree for Constitution Anniversary

Mount Dora Chapter No.103 of the Order of the Eastern Star will sponsor a tree planting in Donnelly Park on November 25 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the U S Constitution. An evergreen tree will be planted and presented to the town as a permanent Christmas tree with civic organizations urged to participate.

Choristers Gifted for Dedication Service at M E Church

On Sunday November 20 the M E church will dedicate forty choristers as ministers of song. Twenty four will form a new choir to be officially named. sixteen join the probationers group. Vestment colors are red cassocks with white surplices for the young, royal purple and white for adults, and white surplices with gold ties for probationers.

Lake County Horticultural Association Meets Monday

The Lake County Horticultural Association will meet at 2 p m Monday in Leesburg City Hall replacing the evening supper meeting. The Mount Dora Public Library receives a rare single volume of The Birds of America by John James Audubon. The gift, donated by Mrs. J. R. MacDonald, offers visitors access in the reading room for the first time in over a century since original publication.

Kiwanis Hear Tampa University President Urge Education

Dr. John H. Shiman president of Tampa University spoke to Kiwanis on the need for better education for youth. He criticized lowered entrance requirements and described university aid covering two thirds of costs for many students. Guests included Dale Pennington and A M Engelhard, with L C Smith winning the attendance prize. The club was urged to vote on December 13 but the week’s program remained unannounced.

Strawberries Sold for Charity by Mount Doral King’s Daughters

Mr. Lewis donated a box of strawberries grown near Sorrento to the Mount Doral King’s Daughters in November. The charity sale raised a dollar to benefit the group’s benevolent work.

The Mount Dora Havana Cruise plans a seven day trip from November 27 to December 3 with Gulf Travel Service arranging final details Monday at 3 PM at the Community Building. Cruise to Welaka on Tanner Family Cruiser
