Shuffleboard Departures And Week Amid Lake County Contests
Last week saw Mae McClintock and Ira Early bid farewell as shuffleboard players from Lake County join friends in wishing them a safe journey and a happy summer. The county league drew 688 players across 17 courts with Mount Dora leading at 15 wins, followed by Eustis 14, Umatilla 8, Ace 4, and Leesburg 4. A dramatic 101 to 61 victory for Earl Shorb and Jimmy Red over Lee of Rev. Kuhlman featured a crucial 24-point, 77-total round by Mrs Peterman. Rain delayed play but 44 youths filled the ring as Reds won 23 games to Blacks 13, with Jack Hughes and Judge Willmott earning top Black honors in a 102 to 43 win. Tavares sent six teams for 18 games, but Eckert Mitchell helped them edge the locals in the playoff.
