Joe Wiley Teasley first class discharged from the Navy at the Naval Air Station Charleston South Carolina on May 3. Teasley joined October 22 1943 served 31 months overseas 24 months earned Asiatic Philippine Liberation and Victory ribbons plus one battle star He is the son of Mr and Mrs W L Teasley of 258 Rhodes Street His wife Ruth Elizabeth Teasley lives at 639 Sunset Court.
Mount Dora Lions held a regular meeting last Tuesday. This Friday Lion Bob Bard will lead the program with Lion Lane of Leesburg as speaker on highway safety and driving tips. Preparations for Ladies Night are underway with details to follow.
The Baptist Church will blend Mother’s Day and Christian Home themes with a morning sermon titled The Good Home. Special music is planned and parents with children in Sunday School are invited to visit their children’s classes during the Sunday School hour. The evening service at 7:30 will follow.
Morning worship at 11 o'clock with Rev. George delivering the sermon titled The ren Faces Its Greatest, choir offerings include O Happy Home. Evening service at 7 30 features an informal song service and a sermon by Mr. Gibson on How to Stand Up and Take It. Tuesday 3 30 Woman's Society program meets. Wednesday 7 Community Building Congregational Covered Dish Supper for all worshippers and friends.
Services continue through May with the last Sunday morning service on May 26. Esther Wyatt Bishop was soloist last Sunday singing I Heard a Forest Pray. Mrs James A Richards hosted the Woman's Association meeting at the manse with Miss Loder presiding. The group discussed From Generation to Generation as next Sunday’s Mothers Day sermon topic by Dr Richard.
A negro cottage in Roberts quarters East Town burned Monday night about 8 o clock. Clarence Davis and family occupied the house. The fire started from an oil cook stove. Davis drove to the first station to report the blaze as the department arrived to find it a total loss but saved the adjoining property.

Jacksonville resident J M Wood plans to buy land and build a home with easy payments. The meeting highlighted membership applications from Jane Weafer and Martha McGhee of USA Nurse Corps. Final plans call for a Memorial Day parade with a firing squad led by Lt. Thomas Hurlburt, followed by a fish fry at Gilbert Park to honor servicemen.

A $1,000,000 Series G bond is to be purchased from the 1941 Refunding Bond Sinking Fund.
Holland led across the state in the U S Senate race while Joe Hendricks held a strong 2 to 1 edge over Tom Voss in the district contest. Barnes led for Justice, King topped group one railroad with Brown second, Carter won group two railroad. In Lake County, Tim Sellar led B D Harris 3 to 1 with 2,955 to 964 votes in Mount Dora precinct.
David Harvey, newly discharged from the army, and A. G. Grant Jr. led a canoe and camping trip to Silver Springs. They left at 5:30 a.m. Sunday April 28 travelled up the Ocklawaha, camped at Paradise Silver Springs, faced a storm, foraged for blackberries near Stark's ferry, and reached Charlie Thorp's boat house by 7:40 p.m. mosquitoes were scarce and waterways were underused according to the group. The Sil ver Spray, led by Curtis Wise, was the only other boat they met.
Commodore J E Whitbeck commends Captain Harry J Wise of Mount Dora Florida for directing the search and recovery following an accidental drowning at Lake Eustis on April 20 1946. High winds and rough water were overcome to locate the body. Wise was a leading member of Flotilla 10 Mount Dora Coast Guard Auxiliary during wartime patrols.
