In a Wednesday baseball game Mount Dora defeated Zellwood 4 home runs lashing the park. McCleod exited in the third after the barrage, Ricks allowed the tie in the eighth, and in the ninth Zellwood exploded with four runs without a hit. Waste fats being collected again in central Florida

Urgent appeals to ease soap shortages prompt fat salvage efforts in Lake County. Home Demonstration Club Hosts Lake County Officials

Lake County Commissioners and other officials were hosted by County Home Demonstration Agent Mrs. Lucie K. Miller and club women at a luncheon on the court house grounds in Tavares. Guests included J. W Hunter States Attorney George Dykes County Clerk Zera Giles County Attorney Frank Banning Supt. of Schools R. E Norris Agricultural Agent and Karl Lehmann Secretary of the Lake County Chamber of Commerce. Frank E. Owens chaired and praised the club for preparing a meal of Lake County products. The event featured decorative palmetto themed place markers and dishes like tomato juice and chicken pie.

Kiwanis Picnic Planned by Central Division Clubs

The ten Kiwanis Clubs of the Central Division plan a May 29 picnic at Clermont with outdoor stunts games watermelon cutting a brief program and a 75 cent plate barbecue. Mount Dora Scouts Excel at Central Florida Camporees

Three Troop 19 patrols from Mount Dora attended the district camporee at Mount Dora and the council camporee at Camp Howard near Sanford. Owl Patrol led by Christ Jacobsen Jr and Eagle Patrol led by Herbert Trenham each earned five of five district camporee awards, while council camporee results show high marks for multiple patrols.

Lake County Tag Sales Soar Past Last Year

Nearly a thousand more car tags have been sold in Lake County to date than in 1945 and the cash paid for licenses is 19949210. Mrs. Pearl Cullen, tax collector, announced this week. Through four months of 1946 9888 tags were sold, indicating total 1946 purchases will exceed 10000 with receipts well over $200000.

The Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission released 500 special quail in Lake County this year, the largest count in any county. Additionally 25 deer were released in the Ocala Forest spanning Lake, Marion and Putnam counties.

Jefferson Thomas of the University of Florida reports in a April 11 radio broadcast that Lake County farm activity totals near thirty eight and three quarter million dollars. Citrus fruits lead with twenty million, grove sales and new acreage add six and a half million, while winter vegetables watermelons poultry livestock ferns and other items add about four million more.

The Florida Federation of Outboard Motor Clubs formed at Bartow meeting with Miami Tampa Polk County reps and associations. Merit Examinations Open to Local High School Students

Lake and Sumter high school students expecting to graduate this term may take state wide merit exams for positions such as clerk typist and stenographer.
