Comdr Bill Paul of Mount Dora Post 39 says teenagers unsupervised drug use rises with amphetamines and barbiturates reaching schools and stores. He warns amphetamines spur recklessness and accidents while barbiturates depress and can cause withdrawal dangers and potential fatal outcomes.
Shuffleboard events on Tuesday and Friday featured 18 courts with top Red team of Nolet and Prentice and top Black team of Smith and Sprangler winning in finals. Main event saw Mrs. Harry beat Ralph Woodard 107 to 100 in a closely fought final. Officials included referees Fred Steele and Earl Dodd Umpires Harry Prentice and Arthur Anderson. Additional club updates note members traveling and hospital recoveries at Waterman Memorial Hospital.
McNealy 26 and wife Cora live at 525 Grant Ave. was assigned to Troop A of the 2nd Reconnaissance Squadron within the 2nd Armored Division's 1st Cavalry at Fort Hood Texas. He entered the Army in April 1955 and is the son of Mrs. A. McNealy of 104 W. Badger Ave. in Eustis and attended Eustis Vocational High School.
Nancy King Rebecca Ryder and Stephen Vaughn earned straight A grades for the fourth six weeks at Mount Dora High. A and B honor roll students span grades 12 to 7, including Reta Aldrich Dianne Aten Mary Lou Davis Philip Dettra Gay Hawkins David Land Serena McDonald Sue McRee Joyce Martin Pat Scogin and Sue Wagner.
At a Thursday night 5 table Howell event in Mount Dora the winners were Mr. and Mrs. C Dunn and Mrs. Jean Bornman with T R McNeill tied for first. Mrs C Lee and Al Smith placed third and Mrs E S Richey with Mrs Fern Breeden took fourth. The club meets 7 30 p m in the Community Room of the First Federal Savings and Loan Building.
