Ice House Theatre delays the musical Once Upon a Mattress scheduled for March 25. Public relations director Ed Mitenius cites major music department technical problems and lack of a choral director. Cast remains available, refunds issued to advance ticket buyers, with plans to reschedule after mid June.
The Women’s Club concert scheduled for March 31 is cancelled after a serious accident hospitalizes concert chair Dawn Aurell. She was injured in a March 21 two car collision at New Highway 441 and Crooked Lake Road and remains hospitalized with multiple injuries. Ticket buyers may seek refunds.
Mrs. Thetford and guests attend the Carl Swisher Memorial Library event in Mount Dora where Bethune-Cookman College Choir wins first in a contest. Rotary Club sponsorship since January precedes future concerts. Dr. Moore speaks on harmony and inclusivity.
Mount Dora Mayor Jesse Willmott awarded Meritorious Service medal to Policeman Robert Roberts for outstanding service while in the Armed Forces. The ceremony at the Mount Dora Police Association dinner honored the Police Reserve with engraved plaques for its 1950 founding, as Gordon Dake and Chief Huett lauded the reserve’s contributions and protection.
