The Red Cross War Fund seeks 125000000 nationally with Mount Dora quota of 2125 led by Miss Margaret Lewis and local solicitors. Districts assign solicitors, pledges already come in, and funds support overseas aid, prisoners of war, home service, surgical dressings, and Nor cross relief efforts. Fire at crate mill causes smoke and sparks repair

Fire department contained a blaze at the crate mill after sparks from burned cross ties spread from an old sawdust pit. Firefighters fought the log pile and dried wood to prevent damage, while town council rules that cross ties burning inside the city violate laws and ordered the railroad to stop.

The Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce reports its 1943 membership drive led by Richard Edgerton and Alfred Rehbaum with 112 members already listed last week and additional names including Coleman's Bakery Grant Cowies Edna M Cowles and Hotel Mount Dora. Members are urged to pay a $10 fee at the Chamber office or to either of two teams to credit the donation.

Keel Receives Silver Star for Lae Raid

First Lieutenant Henry A. Keel of Umatilla Florida, missing in action since May, is awarded the Silver Star for gallantry over Lae New Guinea. Flying a B 25 he bombed enemy installations amid heavy anti aircraft fire, his plane damaged and last seen over the ocean. He is the nephew of Mrs Robert Sadler of Mount Dora.

Lake County tuberculosis association reports February totals of 3149.25 dollars from 19 communities. Of the funds 79 percent stays in county for diagnosis and prevention while the Negro division raises 195.25 dollars. World Day of Prayer Observed by United Council of Church

The United Council of Church Mount Dora announces World Day of Prayer on Friday March 12 with women from local churches participating. Lakeside Inn hosts Coen Brooks wedding party and weekly contests

Last Friday at the Lakeside Inn the Lestas performed a top entertainment. Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Coen hosted their daughter Shirley Coen and her fiancé Lieut. Edward Brooks with the wedding party at cocktails and a small dinner. Saturday featured a putting contest won by Mrs. S. R. Matlack and three men, with prizes of war savings stamps split when Catterall and Parry could not complete a playoff. The Coen Brooks reception and a Saturday evening bridge followed, with multiple prize pairings totaling $12 in stamps. New guests and regulars filled the Lakeside schedule through Sunday night, including violinist Kathryn Quinones joining the Lakeside Trio.

Florida population rises by about 200000 in 1942 estimates

The Florida State Chamber of Commerce released estimates placing the state population at 1,949,086. The count is based on ration books issued and shows an increase of roughly 200,000 since May 1942.

Ralph Shaw, fireman second class in the Navy, spent a five day furlough with his mother and sister, crossed the equator for the eleventh time, and lists Brazil as his favorite place among his travels.

Donald Strickland stationed at Pearl Harbor Navy Yard serves as pharmacist mate third class in the dispensary and enjoys liberty every four days with swimming bowling and pictures. Ernest Minkley torpedomen 38e at Newport passed the physical test at New London and was accepted for submarine service amid a strict examination where only 18 of 100 succeed. The pressure test simulates 100足 underwater and Ernest has served since July 6.
