Leesburg Kiwanis club and county clubs organize the first Lake County Watermelon Festival. A parade ends at Lakeside Park with basket lunches, then music by the Eustis Boys Band. L. M. Lake County girl Edith Harber of Tavares won first honors in the Junior posture contest at the Florida state health contest for 4-H club girls in Tallahassee. Florence Smock of Eustis, last year’s National Health Champion, scored 98 percent in the Senior posture contest and could not prize due to national title. Locals Defeat Sanford In Close Baseball Game
Mount Dora edged Sanford 2 to 1 at Helm Field in misty rain with a standout one hand catch by Brantley in the sixth and a running catch by R Battle in the eighth. Sam Simpson pitched well with nine strikeouts as E G Youngblood served as umpire and Mount Dora’s margin stayed tight in a one point spread in five of six games this season. Narrow escape for two young ladies in Packard roadster
Miss Alexandra Birkbeck and Miss Mary Lou Key skidded on a wet Perry Georgia road while en route from Mount Dora to Cedartown. Mount Dora student Paul Conrad of the University of Florida earns high marks on freshman year work. He carried 211 hours weekly in the demanding chemical engineering track and achieved an average near 93 with six A grades in nine finals. Paul plans to continue in chemical engineering next year.
