Plan To Encourage Aviation In State

State plans a month long aviation program to showcase aircraft use in commercial and recreational flying. A 30 day air tour will visit every county with 100 plus planes. Governor Carlton urged communities to prepare for future air facilities and highlighted Florida's reach to 75 percent of America within 48 hours. The State Chamber Aviation Bureau will push legislation, uniform landing fields, and district structures to launch a statewide aviation drive.

Music Study Club Formed In Mount Dora

A Mount Dora group formed plans for a Music Study Club during a meeting at the community Building. Mrs Mildred Beyerstedt Hodges Eustis Music Club president praised local help and outlined cooperation for musical events. A committee of Mrs Colson Mrs Brown and Mrs Truskett was appointed to draft a constitution and arrange a program for the next meeting on Monday evening the 16th.

Firefighters battle bamboo blaze near Keller garage

A noon Monday fire crew responded to a blaze in bamboo behind the Fletcher Crane lot on Alexander Street. Rapid action prevented the flames from reaching the Keller home garage on McDonald Street, as the bamboo burned only feet from the structure.

Commencement Week At High School Draws Large Audience

The high school held Baccalaureate on Sunday, Class Night Thursday, and Commencement Friday. Rev Elder delivered a fitting sermon, music impressed all, and attendance was large. Class Night was a success with the auditorium crowded. Community auditorium will likely be used next year. Dr Farr’s remarks left a deep impression on students and guests.

County races show Sadler with a large lead but short of a nomination yet, with Lee and Jackson also competing.

Checker Tournament Crowds Win Narrow Victory for McNear

A Saturday night checker tournament in the Rehbaum and Crane store window drew a crowded audience. Mr McNear of Blue Goose Packing Company won the twenty three piece tea set after 16 contestants reduced to a final between McNear and Otis Hall. Hall seemed winner until McNear sealed the win with sharp moves as J G Kirby refereed.
