Prof C O Lott wrapped up the school year for the 32nd time and said it would be the last one. After more than 25 years educating Mount Dora children he turns the job over to another. “As for me I’m just plain tired.”
A celebration in Mount Dora honors Cauly Ormond Lott former principal of Milner Rosenwald Academy who led the school from 1939 to 1970. Surrounded by friends students teachers and relatives he relived years of service on a joyful night.
The Professor, honored in Mount Dora for education and civic work, receives a European tour and a child as a token of appreciation. The gift, a European tot, was presented Tuesday night during a "This Your Life" event at the Community Building. Mrs. M. T. Jackson, Milner Rosenwald teacher, recounts his birth in Douglas, Georgia and his early life as a guard.
A celebratory program recalls Professor C O Lott’s 32 years since founding Milner Rosenwald with 60 students and three teachers. Proclamations from city and chamber mark June 9 1970 as Professor C O Lott Day. Participants include family, local officials, and community leaders as readings praise his education work and role in building facilities.
Voters in Mount Dora rejected a Lake County Board of Public Instruction plan to raise taxes by one mill for two years to air condition county schools. A 194-153 vote defeated the proposal, while 194 supported continuing the 0.3 mill tax for Lake Sumter Junior College. Precinct results varied but all four precincts favored continuing junior college funding.
