Graduates from Mount Dora area high schools celebrated completion of their studies on June 4 1970. One student declared goodbye to school and hello to the world underscoring the transition from classrooms to future opportunities.
The Mount Dora High School Class of 1970 gathers at the Community Building’s rear, nervously awaiting Pomp and Circumstances. Doors open, they file in, and thirty minutes of ceremony pass as they exit laughing crying and jubilant, marking their arrival.
Mayor Jessie Willmott proclaims June 9 as Prof. Lott Day in Mount Dora. T.H. Poole helps plan the tribute at 8 p.m. in the downtown Community Building as Prof. C C Lott retires after 32 years as Milner Rosenwald principal.
A record 92 Mount Dora High School seniors graduate at 8 p.m. in the Mount Dora Community Building. Mount Dora Christian Home and Bible School graduates 32. Florida Central Academy 44 graduates. Speakers include Don Christopher and Kath leen McConnell. the ceremony features Pomp and Circumstances, the alma mater, and presentations by staff.
John Richardson of Tavares named new president of IceHouse Theatre with Dorothy Hostage as vice president Cynthia Schumacher as secretary and Anita Kauffman as treasurer. He recently retired as vice president of First National Bank of Boston after 21 years in its foreign branches and International Division. IceHouse governors include Dorothy Bolander Jane Haneman John Heist Sid Johnson Linda Lawson Sam Lyons Chris Parkin and Desi Salter all from Mount Dora.
