Margaret Champ of Mount Dora will head the Stetson Hat ter yearbook staff as editor in chief and Lloyd Pawley of DeLand will serve as business manager. Both were chosen by student vote and will be juniors next year.
Postmaster Dooley expects delivery of Bonus Bonds by June 16 and asks recipients to call at the post office that day. Bonds are not cashed locally. holders receive a receipt and Tampa handles payment by sending checks through banks or regular channels. Bond owners may hold them for safekeeping and draw interest.
About 300 Lake County boys travel to the University of Florida Gainesville for the 20th annual short course run by the Agricultural Extension Service. Local groups include Bayard Roberts squa d 12 live stock Lee French squad 10 poultry Brugs Kennedy squad 6. Activities include swimming diamondball and mass play at Reeves Field with an honor court Vigilance committee overseeing. The Short Course Newspaper Doings is published with Frances Cooper as editor.
Sylvanee plans a new bathing beach at Sylvan Shores along Lake Gertrude. The Sand beach extends about 125 feet of shoreline with a sturdy white sand front, and a pier will be built for bathers. The project is part of the New Syl- Mags sete Company's development efforts.
The addition of a daily and Sunday star route from Orlando enhances local mail with 10 00 a m incoming and 4 15 p m outgoing mail. Air mail via Orlando connects to the airport by 8 25 p m for overnight delivery to northern cities and the Pacific Coast, shortening the schedule by hours. Postmaster C C Dooley urges use to prevent discontinuation when winter train service resumes.
Children's Day will be observed Sunday at 11 in the M. E. Church. The program committee includes Mrs. A. J. Waltz and Misses Vivia Craig Shirley Schonenberger and Mrs. Frank Burkhart. The program spans beginner primary intermediate and young people's departments with songs readings prayers duets and remarks by D. H. Bishop and Rev. Perry B. James.
Jesse Dooley, UF Class of 1936 graduate and ace catcher, has left for Troy Alabama to coach and play for the team in the Alabama league. He is known for clean sportsmanship and prior semi pro league experience with Troy and other clubs.
Local teachers prepare for summer study with assignments to Wisconsin Gainesville DeLand and Stetson Daley. Ms Viv ia Craig and Prof Riaaberceek pursue- science courses while several others enroll in courses across the region.
Baseball notes report Mount Dora and Apopka game today at 3 30 with Mount Dora aiming to extend a three game win streak led by Do rans manager Tom Cooley. In Friday’s game Winter Garden Christ had a perfect day and D Simpson produced seven hits in Sunday doubleheader. Hale collected four hits in four at bats in the first game.
Assists Wolf 5 and M Cooley lead. Adkins 4, Hale 3, Tremain 2. Home runs by McMillan and Sweate. Pitchers and errors listed with multiple players credited for throws. Umpires Jim Brown and Sheldon noted. Mount Dora and Clermont figures appear in left on bases tally.
Dr. George Gleason of Guadalajara formerly Mount Dora received Rollins College Decoration of Honor at the June 3rd graduation exercises for outstanding services to the college. He studied in Europe and helped found Guadalajara Dental College while serving as an instructor and practicing dentistry and radiology. Also honored was Winter Park resident John H. Neville for similar service to Rollins.
The Wo man s Club civic committee says three new trash cans will be placed soon to curb street litter. One at Donnelly and Sixth, others where trash gathers, with cans near Mount Dora Pharmacy and Mount Dora Hardware Company. Residents are urged to use the cans for paper sacks envelopes gum wrappers and other litter to keep the town cleaner and more sanitary.
Dr and Mrs A Brodie travel to Washington D C after a religious journey stopping at Berea Kentucky. They toured the Skyline Route over the mountains and found it interesting. They stay at the Lafayette Hotel through June and visit many Washington friends.
Mary Agnes Harding, a graduate of Mondora High, earned a 1936 37 scholarship at Southern College Lakeland. The standout senior and scholastic leader also received the American Legion Auxiliary Citizenship Honor Medal for girls at commencement, chosen by peer and faculty vote.

Two Democratic hopefuls, Little Joe Hendricks and W. J. Steed, lead the race for the Democratic nomination in Florida's Fifth District with a second primary set for June 23. Hendricks, 32, Townsend Clubs favorite, touts the Townsend Plan and canal and harbor projects along with veteran protections and citrus industry support. Steed, a Kissimmee lawyer and former mayor, defends old age security, pensions for the aged, inland waterways, fair freight rates, labor standards, and tax relief through restrained government.
Frederick W Sleight of this city is invited to accompany an Audubon Society exploration trip to the Dry Tortugas near Key West. About 22 scientists will sail Monday from St Petersburg aboard a Coast Guard vessel under C R Mason of Sanford Florida. The party studies chology ornithology archaeology and marine life with bird banding planned during the migratory season. Fort Jefferson at Dry Tortugas has a storied Civil War past and Dr Mudd linked to Lincoln’s assassin was confined there.
Sunday afternoon at 4 o clock baptismal services will be held at Lake Gertrude on the old Eustis road. J S Wilson of Pilst church will officiate with a number of candidates.
