Last Thursday's scheduled game with Winter Gar was rained out and will be played Friday at 3 30. Mount Dora pushed a 2-1 decision at Kissimmee as Walter Murphy held them in check while Dudley Adkins pitched well for the locals to keep the score close. Hale and Eckholdt provided the rallies with Cooley contributing two hits.

Verigan to Star in Macbeth at Stetson University

Earl Verigan freshman at Stetson University will play Malcolm in Macbeth. The plays run June 5 and 6 in the Little Theatre under Dr Irving Stover. Verigan is considered an outstanding campus actor with leading roles in student productions.

Signs of defeated candidates to be removed in Lake County

Mount Dora Council Acts On Dairy Cattle Disease and Property Offers

In a meeting moved to the city clerk’s office due to election officials in the chamber, Mount Dora officials approved adding Bangs disease to the Mount Dora dairy ordinance after a U S Government representative urged the change. The council considered offering owners of property on Highland avenue the proposed opening from 7th to 8th streets. They also accepted two 1883 Lake County maps from D H Bishop in Mrs Ida B Conn’s name, and agreed to acknowledge receipt. Neighbors urged Mr Frank Drake to remove a barking kennel near 7th and Alexander, with a draft letter to request abatement. Chief Story reported dairies visited in Mount Dora and Orange County were in good condition with minor exceptions. A plan to extend Helm Park’s south boundary for a regulation field was discussed, with adjoining-property owners to be contacted to finalize the deal.

Bird Islands Cruise Opens In Orange Lake Area

The Bird Islands in Orange Lake, McIntosh, now accessible to tours with the launch of the Bird Islands Cruise. A 30 foot Sea Lyon Speedboat, formerly on Tovey's Jungle Cruise, is used. The islands, part of an Audubon Society preserved habitat, lie two blocks off U S Highway 41 between Gainesville and Ocala. Owned by John W. Rabb and Don McKay.

Carl Graves Hospitalized After Surgery in Massachusetts

Local friends of Carl Graves of the Villa Dora Hotel and Emerson Hotel in York Harbor Maine were alarmed to learn he was in a hospital in Leominster Massachusetts for appendicitis and hernia surgery. They are relieved by later reports that he is improving and on the road to recovery.

Lake County Chamber reports several real estate deals this week led by two orange groves in Mount Dora bought by local buyers through Lakes & Hills Realty. The 100 acre Wadsworth grove sold for 45000 while the Thorne grove also in Mount Dora was sold. C M Uithoven of Mount Dora bought 40 acres from Haley Groves Company with Rex McGill Investment handling. Heim Apartments in Mount Dora sold to Ocala interests and will be remodeled by J J West Realty. About 7500 is being spent to enlarge St Marys of the Lake Catholic church in Eustis, the county's only Catholic church, to accommodate winter visitors.
