Mount Dora travels to Eustis for a pair of games today with Clermont visiting Mount Dora on Sunday for a two game series at home.
Last Thursday's scheduled game with Winter Gar was rained out and will be played Friday at 3 30. Mount Dora pushed a 2-1 decision at Kissimmee as Walter Murphy held them in check while Dudley Adkins pitched well for the locals to keep the score close. Hale and Eckholdt provided the rallies with Cooley contributing two hits.
Earl Verigan freshman at Stetson University will play Malcolm in Macbeth. The plays run June 5 and 6 in the Little Theatre under Dr Irving Stover. Verigan is considered an outstanding campus actor with leading roles in student productions.
A May San Diego Review feature profiles Ted Eason, a former Mount Dora boy, detailing his selection for a screen test at Universal Studios after interviews with him and his parents. The roving reporter notes local interest as the piece appears in the magazine.
Key West officials and WPA projects push a plan to rebuild the Overseas Highway linking the Florida Keys to the mainland. Thomas D. Orr foresees Key West becoming a premier playground with the new road, while Mayor Harry C. Galey sees a “new era” for the city. A loan funds viaduct removals and widening the routes with toll revenue repayment.
W R McQuaig won Montverde mayor by 54 to 43 over Carlton Hickman. J M Lowry named clerk, Helen A Lehmann treasurer, R W Harper Sr assessor, Elmer Barnett marshal, O C McQuaig council member for one year, Milton Butler and Karl Lehmann for two years. Lehmann had declined the nomination but was elected anyway.
Lake County will form an aggressive group named SODCR to remove campaign signs from highways. Officials note that after the June 2 primary, many signs remain on right of way despite state and county rules allowing only signs authorized by the Board of County Commissioners.
Editors of Field & Stream announce the 26th annual national fishing contest inviting Florida anglers to enter large Florida black bass. Nine prizes top at $75 in goods. entries must be made within a month of catch. a $10 prize is set for the largest bass by a child under 16. Georgia holds the world record at 22 1/2 pounds. Florida hopes for a 25 pounder.
Brethren and friends from Mims Orlando Leesburg and Center Hill attended the opening services of the Church of Christ at the Arbor in Lake Franklin Park. The day featured worship dinner on the grounds and a congregational song service from 2 to 3 pm followed by baptisms at Lake Ola.
The Marionette Show, a PTA health fundraiser, will present a varied program using up to sixty puppets. Proceeds support urgent tonsil and adenoids surgeries for children unable to pay, including cases with heart involvement, as parents seek timely operations.
In a meeting moved to the city clerk’s office due to election officials in the chamber, Mount Dora officials approved adding Bangs disease to the Mount Dora dairy ordinance after a U S Government representative urged the change. The council considered offering owners of property on Highland avenue the proposed opening from 7th to 8th streets. They also accepted two 1883 Lake County maps from D H Bishop in Mrs Ida B Conn’s name, and agreed to acknowledge receipt. Neighbors urged Mr Frank Drake to remove a barking kennel near 7th and Alexander, with a draft letter to request abatement. Chief Story reported dairies visited in Mount Dora and Orange County were in good condition with minor exceptions. A plan to extend Helm Park’s south boundary for a regulation field was discussed, with adjoining-property owners to be contacted to finalize the deal.
The Bird Islands in Orange Lake, McIntosh, now accessible to tours with the launch of the Bird Islands Cruise. A 30 foot Sea Lyon Speedboat, formerly on Tovey's Jungle Cruise, is used. The islands, part of an Audubon Society preserved habitat, lie two blocks off U S Highway 41 between Gainesville and Ocala. Owned by John W. Rabb and Don McKay.
Local friends of Carl Graves of the Villa Dora Hotel and Emerson Hotel in York Harbor Maine were alarmed to learn he was in a hospital in Leominster Massachusetts for appendicitis and hernia surgery. They are relieved by later reports that he is improving and on the road to recovery.
Kiwanis members heard a talk by Don Kim at vice to open the graduation event. The vocational guidance committee offered graduates aid in choosing vocations and pursuing training. Letters praised Kiwanis for aiding underprivileged school children with lunches and medical care.
Dr A Stuart Campbell argues in Florida Municipal Record that a state wild land program can curb Florida tax delinquencies while stabilizing public school finances. The plan foresees reforestation, sale of restored lands to private buyers, pulp wood for newsprint, and revenue sharing: nine tenths to county schools and one tenth to UF and FSCW.
The Knights of Pythias and Pythian Sisters hold a memorial service Sunday at 11 o clock in the Baptist church. They will assemble there for services conducted by pastor J S Wilson. The public is cordially invited.

Memorial Day observances included a morning service at City Hall with the Choral Club and Scouts, followed by a cemetery service at 3 p.m. Ed R. Bentley of Lakeland spoke on patriotism and national ideals. Palm branches, a firing squad salute, and Taps capped the day.
The Florida Department of Agriculture at Tallahassee issues a bulletin on citrus growing covering planting irrigating spraying fertilizing harvesting packing and marketing. It features color illustrations of fruit gathering and packing houses and notes Florida’s citrus industry as a major and growing wealth source. A postcard request provides a copy.
Vesper services will be held each Sunday evening at the Methodist church during the summer months. The Epworth League cooperates in sponsoring these services. They start at 7 oclock and last one hour with a short message and special music. Everyone is invited to attend.
Seventeen students earned diplomas at the Mount Dora 1936 commencement with speeches by Hon. James J. Banks Jr. The program featured awards for Flora Morley and Mortimer McCown, a violin solo by Katherine Killian, two piano numbers, and a two piano recessional. Diplomas were presented by Prof. D. D. Roseborough.
Lake County Chamber reports several real estate deals this week led by two orange groves in Mount Dora bought by local buyers through Lakes & Hills Realty. The 100 acre Wadsworth grove sold for 45000 while the Thorne grove also in Mount Dora was sold. C M Uithoven of Mount Dora bought 40 acres from Haley Groves Company with Rex McGill Investment handling. Heim Apartments in Mount Dora sold to Ocala interests and will be remodeled by J J West Realty. About 7500 is being spent to enlarge St Marys of the Lake Catholic church in Eustis, the county's only Catholic church, to accommodate winter visitors.
Miss Alexandra Birkbeck of Mount Dora graduates from Rollins College with a B A degree. The class of more than 80 is among the largest in the 51 year history of the college. Miss Birkbeck is a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority.

Lake county results show Geo J. Dykes leading for county clerk and Doss ahead for tax assessor while Moore leads for Superintendent of Public Instruction with J W Mosley second. Westbrook top for state senator and Tom Cooley and John L Fahs win in two groups for state representative. Frank Owens leads county commissioner with M W Simpson second. Mount Dora precinct 20 nominating C W Cooper for constable. Mount Dora turnout far higher than 1932.
The Legion Auxiliary reported its most successful poppy sale last week with Miss Vivia Craiz as committee chair assisted by many youths including Lola, Betty Lotz, Geraldine Ri1 Frances, Faye Thompson, Spilky, Bobby, Billy mna John Bryant, Sonny Hamilton, ert and Phyllis Turner. Members thank the public for support.
