Mount Dora Names Leesburg Official City Clerk
Frank W. Clifton Jr., 29, assistant to the Leesburg city manager and purchasing agent, is appointed Mount Dora City Clerk. Mayor Tom Champion announced the June 28 start after 41 applications for the post, succeeding W. Carl Fowler who died May 18. Clifton, a Miami native with a USF business degree, has been Leesburg purchasing agent since 1975 and serves on the Lake County Kennel Club board. He and wife Roberta live in Leesburg with daughter Karel Ann.

Mount Dora and Christian Home and Bible School hold graduation for 166 seniors. Mount Dora High School awarded diplomas in the McGehee Memorial Field House with speakers led by Principal J. R. Folsom and Odte Edwards. Valedictorian Robert Riedle and salutatorian Susan Swango delivered addresses. Highlights include magna cum laude recipients, various scholarships from local banks and organizations, and numerous award recognitions among graduates.

Educator to campaign for congressional seat
Don D. Reynolds principal of Seminole High School in Sanford announces his bid for the Fifth Congressional seat. The 41 year old teacher says apathy among youths spurs him to run to restore faith in politics. Reynolds plans to campaign full time for the Democratic nomination after the school year ends. He cites his education credentials and four daughters, and notes his Tennessee roots and Sanford marriage.

Mount Dora Police adds two patrolmen Collins and Roberts
The Mount Dora Police Department welcomed two new patrolmen, John P. Collins and Robert A. Roberts, sworn in last month amid 14 officers on the force. Collins, 29, previously served seven years in Lake County law enforcement and is finishing a criminal justice degree. Roberts rejoined the department after prior service in 1970–72 and later ran a business while in the reserves.

Mount Dora Council approves higher water hook up charges
The Mount Dora City Council voted to raise water hook up fees by 20 percent over city cost with new rates set at 115 for a standard 3/4 inch hookup 168 for one inch 200 for 1.4 inch and 450 for two inch. Additional actions included city cleanup plans new summer crew and insurance bid delays with a standby provision for coverage and a curfew proposal in city parks advancing to third reading.

Mount Dora announces a July 3 parade themed Americans on Parade to celebrate its bicentennial. Participants gather at 2 p.m. on Donnelly Street and Eleventh Avenue, marching south to Gilbert Park for the Independence Jubilee opening ceremony.
