Mr and Mrs McDonald announce Mount Plymouth Hotel near Mount Dora Florida will offer lower seasonal rates to attract more guests. The 18 hole golf course, scenic hilltop views and lake surroundings are highlighted to emphasize a premier Florida resort experience for a broader audience.
The Mount Dora and Eustis Kiwanis clubs met in Eustis with George White guiding the inter club duties. Charles A. Gillette highlighted Florida forestry future and fire risks while noting that 21 percent of the state is timbered and most of it pine.

The Mount Dora post received compliments from Corporals Morel and Judge and was deemed among the best by inspectors.
The Wayside Packing House owned by Wil C. Sleight will double its plant capacity with new machinery. The modern packing operation ships only tree ripened fruit from Lake County groves and has grown consistently over 13 years. Orders for next season indicate a heavy volume across all mail order lines.
The Lake County Chamber of Commerce prepared a fifteen minute publicity script for Florida National Exhibits to be broadcast on WPFG Atlantic City. Miss Helen Pillsbury publicity director for Florida National Exhibits Inc. coordinated the effort. Florida is allotted a fifteen minute daily WFPG program reaching New York Pennsylvania New Jersey and nearby states. The script presents Lake County attractions and living opportunities in dialogue form.
A convention of the 7th District American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary will be held at Kissimmee on Sunday August 2 at 10 30 a m. Local auxiliary members planning to attend should contact Mrs Ben Carr at 635 Alexander Street before Sunday to arrange transportation and other details.
The Treasury urges purchases of War Bonds to supply Army and Marine Corps with special heavy barbed wire. Marines pay fifty cents for twelve yards of this wire, and vast quantities are needed for defensive warfare. invest at least ten percent of wages in War Bonds each payday.
Lake County farmers in the Farm Security Administration program will plant larger fall gardens this year as part of the wartime food effort. Supervisor George D. Livingston notes a 50 percent increase in garden acreage since joining the program and boosted food preservation. Canning continues through September with later crops like beans and peas, using seeds from garden packages to ensure a balanced winter diet.
Corporal H. B. Cockerill from Cape Town is celebrated for a long service career in British forces. He joined the navy in 1895, served in the China relief, fought in the Boer War, rejoined in 1915, fought in France, endured wounds and shell shock, served as engine driver in the Royal Engineers, survived an aerial bombing, and endured later voyage rescues aboard the Galway Castle before returning to South Africa. He is 60 years old.
Lake County Red Cross volunteers gathered at Leesburg headquarters in the First National Bank building. Staff assistants Colley Miller and Backus led training for home service trips and office work while Mary Elizabeth Casson announced junior and senior high students may join canteen and nutrition corps after completing required courses.
T C Jensen carried two ten foot tall corn stalks to Geo LaDue's office from his Wolf Branch patch. Each stalk bore five ears and the ears came naturally from the field without special care.
The Mount Dora Lions Club met in the Community Building with Cecil Bowie presiding. A call went to fraternal leaders to attend a July 29 meeting at the chamber to discuss creating a recreational area for soldiers stationed nearby, with Lion Rehbaum as program chair.
The National Safety Council issued 12 bicycle safety rules to curb rising bike traffic. Emphasizes obeying traffic laws, riding right with traffic, single file, hands on handlebars, secure loads, no hitching rides, use lights or reflectors, bell or horn, use arm signals, dismount at busy corners, ride cautiously, and treat bicycles as vehicles subject to general traffic rules.
A notice warns against unscrupulous termite examiners canvassing communities. It urges consulting reputable firms with guaranteed service and to check the Chamber of Commerce list before contracting for termite control or treatment.
Mr Jacob Kreis and his sister Miss Anna Kreis of Charlestown New Hampshire purchase the Wilbur J Beebe home on Tremain Street Mount Dora and plan to reside there year round. They previously ran a New Hampshire mountain farm that hosted summer tourists and sold it to the Government. They arrived in Mount Dora around July 21 and moved into the new residence shortly after.
The salvage committee announces the first possible tin foil collection. Boxes are in the Defense Center, Chamber of Commerce, and the Topic office for drop off. volunteers will handle the processing.
Lake County collected 534,623 pounds of scrap rubber in the campaign, enough to equip nearly 300 heavy bombers or over 500 medium bombers. The effort would supply more than 500,000 gas masks at 1.11 pounds per mask, praised by Mrs. L. C. Tally and J. T. Prater for strong local participation.
Lake County Commissioners met to approve the tentative budget for 1942 43 and to begin condemnation proceedings to acquire rights of way for the Lake County portion of the Mount Dora Plymouth highway.

Dr S C Colley of Mount Dora, a prominent Lake County physician, was named chair of the Florida Children's Commission at a meeting in Jacksonville. He succeeds A Rice K of Jacksonville who has left for military service. The commission now oversees about 150 children in hospitals and convalescence homes statewide. Colley previously lived in Tavares and now has offices there and in Mount Dora. He helped found the Lake County Medical Center at Eustis.
The Sinclair Filling Station on Orlando road outside city limits burned last Thursday around 3 55 am. Owned by Beverly Grizzard and operated by E B and Mrs Goldman occupants barely escaped as part of the building collapsed. Inspectors deem the fire accidental possibly from faulty wiring and the building carried a small insurance policy. No rebuilding plans yet.
Many ratings remain open for enlistment in the Seabees Navy construction battalions. Ages 17 to 50 may apply with pay from 54 to 185 dollars monthly and three letters of recommendation. Recruiters list nine Florida stations including Tampa and Jacksonville for applications and pre enlistment papers followed by an interview with engineer Theut E R Bonacci in Jacksonville next Friday, Monday and Tuesday.
